It's a common thing for a small town to have an urban legend about some sort of inhuman or paranormal thing that terrorizes people from having a normal life, and if nothing creepy happened in said small town, someone would make sure to create a way to continue with that tradition.
Shadyside had her own urban legend about Sarah Fier, this woman who cursed the whole town hundred of years ago since she was a witch, yes, a witch! People started to blame her for every single bad thing that happened in that town, also being the main source of fun for the majority of teenagers joked about it: if one of their classmate died (event that occurred once in a couple of years) they would blame the witch about it, make a joke or two and carry on with their lives.
Carrie Walsh, ex shadysider and current cheer captain for Sunnyvale College, experienced it from both sides but never gave it too much thought to it, until it was the turn of her best friend to meet said curse and Carrie couldn't help but fall way too deep in the situation, trying to solve whatever it's happening to her best friend.
And that included joining sides with four Shadyside teenagers, running away from a skull masked killer, revealing some dark and creepy secrets about her family and spending an entire night with her ex boyfriend who Carrie still had feelings for.
She couldn't think one good thing about the situation.
