Before I have time to reply to Lonzo's text, he is calling me.
I hesitate before answering the phone.
"Hello," I say.
My hands are sweating and my heart is beating quickly.
"Hi," Lonzo says.
He clears his throat.
"So, um- what did you find out?" I asked nervously.
Lonzo stays silent.
"Are you-are you actually eighteen?" Lonzo asked.
"Why are you asking?"
"Because I wanted to check in with you before believing something that I saw..." Lonzo sighs and I do the same.
The truth always comes out.
"What did you see?"
"I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw this profile in my suggestions list." Lonzo starts. "They looked like you and I clicked the profile. I read the bio and it said Lani Boyd."
"Oh, that's it?" I asked.
"No," Lonzo replies. "I read it and I looked at a couple of post and the comments. One of them caught my eye from a few weeks ago, it said 'TBH Math class was always LIT with you, I hope we get a class together next year. YOU'RE SO PRETTY TOO!'"
I stay silent.
"You told me you were finished with school..." Lonzo says.
"I know, Lonzo." I groan.
"So, can I please know the truth?" Lonzo asked.
I tell Lonzo everything and once I'm done, he is silent.
"Zo?" I asked.
"Huh?"
"Are you ok-"
"Lani, I need some time to think about this..." Lonzo says.
He lets out a frustrated groan again.
"I had sex with a minor, I had sex with a minor." Lonzo mumbles to himself.
I was going to reply, but Lonzo hangs up the phone.
I sit on my bed in shock.
I can not believe that just happened!

LaMelo and I leave Dave and Busters and we walk around a nearby park.
We talk about anything and everything that comes to our mind.
After walking for a while, LaMelo drives me home.
Once we arrive, we just sit there and share a couple of glances with each other.
"You're so short, it's funny." LaMelo pokes my cheek.
I smack my lips and roll my eyes.
"Stop, everyone says that to me!" I cross my arms.
"It's cute though!" LaMelo chuckles. "You wanna know your contact name in my phone?"
I nod my head.
LaMelo hands me his phone and I look at my contact name.
"Fun sized." I giggle.
My phone buzzes and I look at it.
It's a text from Rain asking where I am.
"We should probably get going," I say to LaMelo.
He nods his head and we both get out of the car.
LaMelo holds my bear under his arm.
While we walk to the front door, LaMelo holds my hand swinging our arms back and fourth.
We make it to my front door and I look down at my feet.
"I had a lot of fun, thanks for inviting me out!"
"No problem, anything for my cute fun sized girl." LaMelo says.
He pulls me into a hug and once we pull away, I look up at him with my hands in my pocket.
LaMelo looks down at me, and then he quickly leans down and kisses my lips.

My heart is beating so loud I swear you could hear it.
After a few seconds, we pull away.
"I'll text you," LaMelo says before he walks to his car.
I go inside the house smiling from ear to ear.
"I'm home!" I yell while walking into me and Lani's shared room.
My smile leaves my face once I see my cousin sitting on her bed crying.
