I'm not like other girls. I was born with a tail... in my own house. Then my dad had to drive my mom to the hospital to weigh me and the other stuff they usually do when the baby's born. The doctors wanted to remove my tail, but my parents were super against that idea, so my tail is here to stay. I guess in one way I'm mad about this because every time I want to buy jeans from Walmart in Fall River or the local second-hand store, Mom and Dad always make me buy low-rise jeans so that it wouldn't squish my tail or something like that, but I always worry that my butt's hanging out and that someone's gonna point it out to me or even worse record it.

...See what I mean? This is why I usually wear dresses sewn by my grandpa. He's gotten really good at sewing after my grandma passed away about a decade ago. It's weird really. When my grandma was still around, Grandpa wasn't interested in sewing in the slightest... at least, that's what my dad has always told me.

I think something tells me Grandpa only got into sewing because he claims that I look a lot like Grandma

But I don't necessarily think that's the case. Sure, my grandma had red hair and freckles like I do, but I'm pretty sure my eyes came from Grandpa. That, or they came from my mom and her parents. Still though, as long as he keeps sewing, he's always gonna say, "Nancy, you look just like your grandmother Margaret."

Still though... it's not just my tail that's weird. It's also my name- Nancy. Nancy! Doesn't that sound so old-fashioned?! It was my mother's idea. My dad wanted to name me Jenna; my grandparents wanted to name me Rachel, but in the end, it was my mother's choice, and she wanted to name Nancy because as she says to me all the time-

I guess I should be thankful that I have a name that's easy to pronounce. Sometimes, my best friend Chenda has her pronounced 'Chendra' or 'Kendra', and that irritates her a lot.

This is my best friend Chenda, and she is the weirdest person I have ever met. But you know... most of the time that's a good thing. Actually, she's the one who introduced me to KPop. We were watching Sense8 last year when her phone started ringing.

So I asked her after she answered her mom, "Hey, what's that song called?"

And she was like, "What song?"

And so I told her, "Your ringtone."

And she was like, "Oh." and showed me this song.

...Yeah... I was bopping along to it. It was that good. So Chenda showed me some other KPop songs from Orange Caramel and SHINee, and I was soooo hooked. It's weird really. Back in 2016 KPop wasn't really all that mainstream. Now it's 2017, we're about to start high school, and now KPop's everywhere! I mean, every girl I know is into KPop or at least knows what KPop is. I guess you can say that I'm like other girls after all.

If only the people in school can actually treat me like I'm every other girl instead of like I'm some frail little girl who's too stupid to handle anything all because I was born with a tail and my parents didn't want to remove it.

Great. Tomorrow's the first day of school. In some way, I'm looking forward to it, but in other ways, I'm not because I'm going to have to face those types of questions all over again...
