Seraphina's POV

"One," I counted. Every time my father, Alastair, hit me I counted silently in my head.

"Two," everytime the beating was longer.

"Three," I kept counting as I could hear the crack of his hand against my face.

"Four," I felt my cheek split, blood running down the left side of my face.

"Five," the slapping didn't cease. My mother, Cordelia, finally stepped forward from where she was observing this abuse. I didn't have it bad, not as bad as others. I deserved it anyways. I got a b minus and I was caught vaping with my boyfriend, Bradford. For one I wasn't allowed to date, two I'm sixteen, and I shouldn't have a vape. And lastly, grades were everything and I wasn't allowed below a b+, and lately I have been slacking off in school. I was done with school if you ask me. I was anxious to move out, be an adult and to live free for once.

"Dear, why don't we tell Seraphina the big news," my mother gently told my father, careful not to anger him in the slightest.

"Yes you're right love. I will tell her now."

"Tell me what?" I asked thoroughly confused.

"Well your mother is pregnant and you will be attending a boarding school starting this semester. The preparatory school is called Lionsgate Prep."

"Wait what? Slow down! I'm not leaving Los Angeles. Where even is this school? And I don't want a baby brother and sister I won't get to know well because you sent me away."

"We are not sending you away. We think it's best to take a break from each other and to get you back and focused on your studies along with learning impeccable manners.

"The school is in the northern part of New York. You'll enjoy it. It'll be a break from the hectic life here in Los Angeles and a good time to focus and finally get acceptable grades," my mother responds coolly and calmly composed, like she was some kind of movie villain, with obvious annoyance and almost hatred in her eyes but a small smile upon her lips.

God my mother Cordelia was the representation of Satan's wife, how she could kill someone and not bat an eye and be so innocent. My father Alastair though would laugh at death for he acted like the fallen angel himself. He was straight out cruel and didn't give a damn about those closest to him, and he only cared about power. They were meant for each other. It made me sick.

"So what you're saying is, you don't want me around the new baby? Or is it that you just don't want me around in general?"

"Go to your room Seraphina Grace Evans!"

I walked up with my pride waving clearly in front of their faces showing them that I won.
