Chapter 49 - More than Words

Rei looks worried as she clutches my clothes.

"If I go overseas..."

"We won't probably see each other for a while."

"Th-That's true..."

I know the truth, and Rei probably does too.

(Saying we won't see each other for a while is an understatement...)

She will be studying over there so it won't be easy for her to come back again. And I don't have the means to go overseas whenever I like.

(And if Rei becomes a chef over there...)

(She won't be back at all because she'll have her job...)

So in all likelihood we might never see each other again...

"R-Rei...i...."

"Yes?"

There are so many things I want to say to her before I can't see her anymore.

(There are times that I want to be selfish and tell her to stay with me, when she told me that she'll stay with me forever it makes me so happy but then I'm just being selfish giving up her dream for me won't make me happy as well. I want to tell her that I'll wait for her to come back to me, no matter how long it takes...)

(I want to say that to her but...)

"It's nothing..."

"Are you sure?" she asked curiously.

"Y-Yeah it was nothing."

"O-okay.." she looks down trodden as if she's expecting me to say something.

I'm afraid if I say something like that she'd be bothered again and changed her decision.

(And she's only just decided that she will go to France...)

If I were to say the wrong things now she might feel pressured or she might have regrets.

(I can't allow that.)

(It would be best if I don't say anything more than I already have.)

And so...

A few days later...

I arrive in the living room one morning to find...

"Rei..."

"Good morning, Mina" she smiled sweetly.

"Good morning Rei."

The stain between us vanished after our talk. I am glad of it, but...

"How are your preparations for your trip?"

"Ah, okay, I guess..."

"I see. I sure you do well at that cooking school."

"Thank you, Mina."

Our relationship turns back to normal.

But now it seems that we are holding back on things we want to say to one another.

(I really do want to tell her that I'll always be waiting for her...)

(But I don't want to put even more pressure on her...)

Then...

Rei clears the foggy air that has been forming between us, speaking in a sprightly tone.

"Oh, um...Mina."

"I thought I would go all out tonight and prepare steak for dinner."

"O~ho, that sounds great! I love steak."

"I know you do, so I'm going to make my own special sauce for it, so please look forward to it."

"I will!"

"Hehehe..."

We smile like we always did at our small talk.

And as we do I reassure myself...

(Everything will be just fine...)

(There's nothing to worry about...)

(And she has made this decision to make her dreams a reality...)

There is supposed to be nothing wrong with that.

(This time there won't be any more issues...)

And then a few days later....
