Ethan's POV

Why him?

Tears no longer pour from my eyes.

Why not me?

I'm still running.

I know he's better looking,
but she can't even see him.

I've missed my first lecture of today by now.

I know he's older than me.

I've seemed to have stumbled into a neighborhood.

I know he's a lot more fun than I am.

The houses I run by start to look familiar.

I know he's just a better person in general.

I stop in front of a small house and make my way up the sidewalk.

But why not me?

I don't even realized I've knocked until the door swings open.

Y/n....

"Ethan?"

Why?

"Are you okay?"

My heart hurts.

I fall to my knees and begin to sob again. Tears that I didn't know I still had come pouring down.

It feels like I've been stabbed.

"Oh god. Let me help you inside."

Maybe I would have been better off stabbed.

I feel them help me up and basically drag me inside.

Don't think that Ethan.
That's isn't true.

I hear the door close and feel soft fabric against my skin.

He could get any girl he wanted...

"I'll get us some coffee."

...and he chose the one that I loved.

My vision is blurred by my tears and my head is pounding.

I thought he would ask out Amy.

I can hear footsteps coming towards me.

I was wrong.

"Now tell me everything that happened." Amy says as she places the hot cup in my hands.

Mark's POV

"Ethan?" Y/n calls out as she sits there on her bed, confused.
I haven't moved from where I'm standing. There's probably still a shocked expression painted on my face.
"What did it look like?" She mumbles, puzzled.
"Mark?" She says, looking all around the room.
"Y-yeah?" I stutter.
She turns her head and her eyes focus on me.
"What did it look like?" She asks.
I feel heat rise in my face.

How can she be so innocent?!

"A-uh....It looked like...um-"
"Spit it out!" She snaps.
I go silent and her face softens.
"I didn't mean to snap." She whispers.
"It's fine." I assure her.
"He um....thought we.." I trail off.
"We?" Y/n encourages me to continue.
"Did the...dance with no pants."
My face heats up even more.
She still looks confused and then all at once her face flushes red.
"Why would he think that?!"
She shouts, embarrassed.

Lie.

"I-I don't know."
The lie makes me cringe.
I can think of many reasons why he would think that.
"Where did he go?" She asks herself.
Taking the toothbrush back to the bathroom, I throw on my shirt and hang up a stray towel that was on her floor.
When I go back into the actual room, Y/n has her phone up to her ear. She then frowns.
"Voicemail."

Ethan's POV

"Tell me everything that happened." Amy's voice calms my nerves a bit.
"E-everything h-urts." I choke out.
She furrows her eyebrows.
"Why?" She asks.
Her tone sounds almost motherly.
"Ma-Mark." Is all I can manage to get out.
Amy's expression turns from sympathetic to angry.
"What did that a** do to you?!"
She stands up from the couch, ready to go searching for him.
"He to-took the girl I-I loved from me-e." I tell her.
Her face softens and she sits back down next to me.
"What exactly do you mean?" She asks.
"Th-they had se-x." I say.
"He kn-knee I liked her."
Amy leans toward me and engulfs me in a huge hug.
"Shhh," She starts to stroke my hair. "It's gonna be okay."
My phone starts to ring, causing me to jump. Amy pulls away and I pull out my phone just as it goes to voicemail.
"Who was it?" She asks.
"Y/n." I say, a few more tears rolling down my cheek
"The girl?" I nod.
The phone rings again and I reluctantly answer it.
"H-hello?" I stutter, putting her on speaker.
"Ethan? What's wrong? Why did you run out?" She sounds super worried.
"Mark said that you think we had....you know..."
Her just saying that makes me almost break down again.
"We didn't. Why did you think that?" I wipe my tears away and stare at Amy.
"Because Mark had on no shirt and you had no pants on."
It took my whole being not to stutter.
She begins to laugh.
"Ethan, my sweatshirt is covering my shorts and I didn't even know Mark was shirtless."
I smile.
"Where are you?" She asks.
"At a friends-s." I tell her.
"What's their address? I'll come and get you."
The thought of sitting in a car with her and Mark alone scares me.
"No that's a-alright. I'm gonna stay her for a while. Tell our Professor that I'll come to-o his late night class." I say.
"Okay." Y/n sighs sadly.
"I'm moving in with Mark today because I have nowhere else to go, so I'll see you tomorrow."
My eyes go wide.
"Why don't you come live with me?" I ask.
Amy now starts to look concerned.
"Because you have an apartment and I wouldn't want to take up the small amount of space you have." She tells me.
"You wo-"
"We're already packing things into his car." She says.
"Maybe we can hang out tomorrow." I can tell she's smiling.
"Yeah." I quietly agree.
"See you tomorrow...wait, no I won't." She laughs at her own blind joke.
"Bye Y/n." I chuckle and hang up.

I look up at Amy to see anger all over her face.
"Why did she offer to hang out and then say she won't be seeing you?!" Her face is red with anger.
I burst out laughing.
"Amy, Y/n's blind."
Her eyes go wide.
"Does Mark know?" She asks.
"I don't think he does."
