~//~ Terrence & Nicolas ~//~

As a son of the Elite, Nicolas was used to getting the best out of everything. After all, it was his superior genes that had gotten him there. The Elite might have been the ruling class of the Society, but they were still affected by the Plague and, for the most part, unable to reproduce. As such, out of all the children to come out of the Faculty, only the best would get sent to the Elite. They would get raised by the richest families, get the best schools, and hopefully, end up helping their country in the never ending search for a cure. For those who ended up not being so scientifically inclined, they would simply join the ranks of the government, like their parents. They were raised to be leaders. Nicolas had heard that all his life.

Terrence on the other hand, was part of the average. The son of a grocery store owner, he'd only gone to school long enough to get his pre school-grade certification and had started working in his father's shop at 16. He would keep on working there with the rest of his family, and eventually own the shop when his father had retired. He'd known all his life that this was what was expected of him, and he had no problem whatsoever, but in his mind he knows that is not a chance he can make.

The two of them made an odd-couple, walking the streets together; one boy in his modern designer slacks and perfectly groomed black hair with eyes blue as the reflection of the moonlight and the other boy in rugged jeans, green dusty work apron, and dark brown hair, shiny hazel eyes with sprinkles of green in them. Still, they were inseparable.

The story of how they met was quite unusual for a child of the elite. Once, when Nicolas was a boy, he escaped his nanny's and ran over beyond the wall that separates the Elite and the Average. After wandering around the other side of the city with wide eyes for quite some time, he ended up spotting another boy his age, who was playing by himself in a park, looking like he was having loads of fun. As a well behaved Elite little boy, he was much too shy to approach the other child, but when the little rugged kid saw him, the brown head boy immediately invited him to play. And with the childish innocence that inevitably comes along with being 5 years old, Terrence and Nicolas became fast friends. A friendship that had remained through the next 13 years.

Today, since he knew Terrence finished work early, Nicolas decided to skip his last class and come to make a visit to his friend over the wall; He wasn't good at maths anyways. He'd come to pick him up at work after his shift, and though the brown haired boy had been surprised and welcomed him with his usual rectangular smile and a tackling hug, Nicolas couldn't help but notice that his friend seemed distracted as they walked back to his house. That's why, as they settled down on the living room table, he decided to give his friend his birthday present earlier.

"Tadaaaah!!!" exclaimed the black-haired teen, producing a signed copy of his favorite artist newest record and offering it to his friend.

The other boy's mouth dropped comically in surprise as he gingerly held the box carefully. "Oh my god! Nico, how did you get this?!" he exclaimed, gazing at the cover that showed the portrait of a pretty young woman with light ashy hair and wide blue eyes, winking coyly at the camera.

Nicolas grinned cheekily, pleased with himself, and leaned back on the couch, clasping his hands behind his head as he answered, "She's in one of my classes at the Academy. I know how big of a fan you are so I just asked her. Happy birthday, Ter."

"Oh my god..." the boy repeated, walking over to his family's sound system and putting the disco in. Soon the clear just the sound of a silky and airy female voice filled the room and both boys turned quiet as they listened - James sporting an especially enraptured expression. "Thanks so much Nikolay." he said, looking towards his friend after a moment and giving him a genuine smile, "but you know, it's not my birthday for a few more days yet."
