Chapter 44 - A Sudden Stroke of Luck

She must be contemplating about what she said to me approaching a decision realistically she must be conflicted with her choices.

(What should I say to her...)

We are both feeling as lost as each other, while preparing breakfast.

A few days later I am helping Rei prepare dinner.

I heard her cute ringtone chime.

But Rei is away with the fairies yet again.

"Rei? Your phone is ringing." I called out.

"W-wha? Oh, so it is."

"Sorry, but can you take over frying the fish for me."

"Sure. Leave it to me."

"Thank you."

She then runs out into the hall, cell phone in hand.

"Fryer...meet again..."

I snarled at the frying fish with lid in my hand to shield myself from the splashing oil of death.

(She's been day dreaming a lot, she's probably still conflicted about her decisions...)

I think to myself as I continued my battle fencing the frying fish.

I can vaguely hear her voice in the distance.

"Hello? Oh, Hi Mom. You'd be calling me a lot lately."

"Yes..yes.."

"When are you coming back from your trip I kind missed you mom."

"Ehehehe..."

"W-What?!"

(W-what happened...?)

"Yes...I understand..."

She soon returns to the kitchen.

"Um...Mina."

"Was that your Mom? Is everything all right?"

She hesitates for a moment then whispers.

"We were discussing my choices for the future.."

"Okay...is everything okay?" (she looks troubled .)

"And Mom said she has found the perfect university for me and my dreams."

"Oh, isn't that a good news?"

"Apparently there is a famous cooking school that budding chefs from all over the world come to attend."

"It's a really exclusive school with a strict compliance to cooking, she asked if I would like to apply there after graduating."

(I had no idea there was a cooking school like that.)

I contemplate for a moment before responding to her.

"Then I think you should go."

"You can make your dream a reality if you go there and you can hone your skills as a cook."

"Uh...Is something wrong?" (she's been staring at me with a pained expression in her face.)

For some reason the more I talk the darker Rei expression becomes.

"What's wrong Rei?"

"That famous cooking school...Totsuki Culinary Academy."

"Yeah...?"

"It's in France."

"Oh....F-France!?"

Im so taken back by this turn of events that my voice squeks.

"W-Wait a second here..."

"Why is you mother looking at schools overseas..?!"

"Oh..i forgot to tell you this, my real mom, she's a designer and she's been working in France for the past 3 years now."

Her expression is hard to read as she explains.

"Dad must have told her about my decision going to college and since she knows that I dreamt to become a cook since I was a kid and the fact the we haven't saw each other for 3 years most have result to her suggesting me to study there."

"Y-you kind of left me out with that part..."

"I'm really sorry Mina there's been a lot thing happening recently that it must have skip my mind," she apologized timidly.

"I see..."

Shaking, she delivers the most shocking part in a whispered voice.

"A-and so..."

"She's been through a lot lately with Dad and their divorce me being so far away from her must be difficult as well."

(I understand she must be worried as well, it's her real mom after all.)

"And remember Dad told us he's been having oversees work related trip recently, they want us to meet there Me, Mom and Dad I guess to finally have a closure or one last time to become a complete family..."
