Getting back to the geodes and stuff, what if the crystal, gem, whatever (I don't pay attention in science which I probably should be but anyway...) has decoys. The character would have to find all three, five, ten, fifteen, or even twenty stones! Then, they would have to test it in some way to find the true stone that could help with their adventure or something.
