Levi's p.o.v

The smell.
The scent of her haunts me.
I'm addicted.
I crave her.
I want her, just to be near her.
I can't.
She wouldn't understand.
It's best for her.
She won't feel a thing.
She won't understand our world.
I have to, no, I need to reject her.
It will protect her.
It's for the best.

Levi's thoughts had kept him up most of the night as he stared at the ceiling of his bedroom. He had exposed himself to (f/n), his destined mate, the only one he will receive for the rest of his life.

To Werewolves, a mate is a treasure.
A mate is given to a werewolf at birth, a destined soulmate. It takes people days, months, years to find their mate.

Some never find theirs.

To reject a mate is practically suicide to a lower ranking werewolf but due to Levi's status as a Beta, he possessed the power to reject a mate, and live.

Breaking the bond between a mate is the most painful thing a werewolf can ever go through.

Higher ranking werewolves break the bond of their mates in a sense of what's best for the pack in a crisis. Sometimes a pack needs a stronger bloodline to lead it. But in Levi's case, he was just a second in command to the Alpha, so it didn't matter much to him.

I need to protect her by doing this.

A part of him ached for her. Now that he had finally found her, he wanted to stay with her forever. He wanted to treat her like a princess, practically give her the world.

There's a war going on. They'll kill her.

Rogues.

They were kicked out of their packs for unlawful conduct or just didn't want to be chained to rules. They rebelled, allying up with other rouges creating a group they called " Titans."

They think they are doing society a favor by bringing down packs for a more freedom based complex. Instead, they create destruction by ripping families apart, killing the males in the pack, raping the women, and training the children for a more "freedom based" lifestyle.

It's all a lie.

Levi decided he needed to talk to Erwin, the Alpha of the pack. He needed guidance, help, practically anything to keep him sane. He was on edge, about to lose control. He had to hold everything back not to run to her house and just embrace her.

The floorboards creaked under his feet as he approached his bedroom door. He opened it, following the hallway to Erwin's study. He needed answers.

A faint glow framed the door of Erwin's study. A sharp knock to the door alerted Erwin. Levi had decided to talk to him in person instead of mind linking. It felt better to talk in person.

"Good to see you Levi." Erwin opened the door before turning on his heel back to his desk. Erwin sat back down as he watched Levi close the door shut behind him.

"Is something wrong, you look-"

" I met my mate today." Levi announced in a hush tone.

Erwin stood up out of his seat, eyebrows furrowed as he walked around the desk to stand in front of Levi.

" I'm so happy for you. I'm so glad you found your mate-"

"She's human."

The words Levi whispered stunned Erwin.

"Can-can that even happen?" Levi's fist bundled up in anger. He was angry at the world, angry at the fates. They cursed him.

" You know it's rare. It's possible but rare. There is little to none scripture about how they coexist in our world. Sometimes the genes don't get carried along in the bloodline. I know who you are talking about; the new girl. Her father is a werewolf, her mother is a human. He never met his mate so he settled with a human. She knows about our world but the girl doesn't."

"So basically she's a half bred?" Levi's eyes gleamed with hope. Maybe there was a way to have her in his life.

" Not technically. The genes to possess a wolf never appeared in her DNA. She's rare and we've never experienced this situation before in this pack. I can always communicate with other packs about her kind. Although, she doesn't know about werewolves and the world we live in. Her mother wants her to have a normal life, and we certainly don't know how she'll take it if we tell her."

Erwin retreated to a bookcase near Levi as he shuffled through books, trying to find any piece of information he could give Levi. Sadly, no scripture fit the description.

" Should I reject her?" Levi choked out.

Erwin froze. His head turned and gave Levi a soft hearted look. He felt bad for him. He finally met his mate but can't have her.

" It would be best.. in this circumstance. We don't know if she'll expose us. We must protect ourselves and her."

" Will she feel the rejection?"

Levi worried for her. Rejection is supposed to feel the worse to a werewolf. He knew it would almost kill him but he knew he could pull through, after all, he was the Beta of the pack. But she was a human, and there isn't any written cases on the side effects for humans.

" I don't know. Only time will tell. I will alert Hanji about this. This experience will provide evidence to werewolf kind and knowledge." Erwin fumbled around with some papers, scribbling notes onto it.

"Get some sleep Levi. I'll see you tomorrow morning."

That was Levi's cue to leave. Bidding Erwin a good night, Levi retreated back into his bedroom.

I have to reject her.
I'm doing what's best for her, and for me.
But what if I hurt her?
She deserves better.
I have to do it.

I have to reject my mate.
