− Hi my name is Xoe Smith. I am a teenage girl struggling with family issues. My family life is not all that great. My dad's an alcoholic, my mom's a huge fucking slut, and my brother is a drug addict. I feel like I'm the only normal one here, I shouldn't feel this way. My friend Karlie is the only one that gets me. She listens and she understands how fucked up my family is, her family is more of a family to me than mine ever was. Her family is so heartwarming. They listen to me; they want to know what's going on in my life. Unlike my actual family, they care. My family was never there for me, my brother was the only one that cared for me until he started shooting heroin and hitting up every drug dealer for some pot. You guys might be thinking why don't you live with our aunts and uncles or grandparents. Well guess what they don't give two shits about me, all they care about is themselves. I stopped going to their houses when I was 10, that's when I realized they were treating me like a piece of shit. Now I must look out for myself and must do whatever it takes to not become like my family. I don't want to end up like my parents, and I want my brother to find help. I want my big brother back. I can't even talk to him because he's so high off painkillers and every other drug in the book.

− Today is the day that I take control of my life. I don't want to be stuck in this house anymore, I'm packing a bag. I'm going to sneak out the window at midnight and make sure nobody sees me. All I brought with me was a notebook and a pencil. I don't need anything else. It just hit 12:00am, and it's time to make a move. I made sure everyone was asleep. My mom was out with some guy, my dad was blacked out, and my brother got so high that he just passed out, great. It was so easy to sneak out, I'm not that surprised that it was that easy. As I'm walking, I see a cop car coming up the road. I panicked; I ran into the closest bush I could find. I sat there waiting for him to pass by. I saw him go by slowly like he knew I was there. I tried not to move or make a sound. When I couldn't see him anymore, I started walking again. I realized I must be more careful and that I must stay hidden till the morning.
