"When your soul finds the soul it was meant to find, everything falls to place, all the stars align."
The crowded city is immersed in the darkness of the night, but at the same time it is full of life. In one of the residential neighbourhoods of the city, on the 6th floor of a tower block, with her feet hanging over the window sill, she sits. A young woman with hazel eyes filled with tears, and a heart full of sorrow. She sits there alone, thinking about all the events that took place in the last five months. A lot had changed and perhaps the biggest change is herself. She squeezes her eyes hard and bites her lower lip with the intention of stopping a sigh.
From the third floor of the building in front of her come the angry shouts of a woman, who is giving her husband an earful because he came home late and drunk, again. A habit of his since he lost his construction job a few months ago. Their fights have become some kind of a ritual for them and also for their neighbours. They shout at each other, sometimes they break a glass or a plate, but the very next day they kiss and make up. And everyone from a mile can hear the noise of their makeup sex.
A broken smile appears on her lips when she remembers the day she met him, the man that changed her life, her soulmate. Although more than 4 years have passed since that day, she still remembers the smell of the rain and the smell of his cologne like it was yesterday.
'I cannot believe that I let you convince me to actually do this. What is wrong with me? What if he turns up to be the spawn of Satan and likes killing his victims with an axe and then bury them in his back yard' "she says exasperated in her phone while putting on her sandals and then running her hands through her hair. A week ago, her best friend, Sam decided to create Eve a profile on a dating site and set up a blind-date.
' I do not even have words for you. Eve, when was the last time you went out and had some fun?'
'What do you mean? I'm having fun all the time. And, just so you know, yesterday I went out.'
'Eve, going to the library cannot be described as going out. You were being a nerd, again. Please, listen to me when I say you need this.'
'Fine, but if he turns out to be Hannibal's lost child, you and I will have a serious problem.'
She hangs up the phone with a groan, grabs her purse, tosses her phone in it, and walks out the door of her two bedroom apartment.
Once outside of the building, she was stunned to find out that it was pouring. She was dressed in a little black dress and sandals, an outfit perfect for a sunny day not a typhoon, and also she had no umbrella in her purse. She mumbled a curse under her breath while chewing on her bottom lip, a habit of hers when she was anxious, and trying to decide if she was brave enough to step outside or not. She loved the rain, and especially the smell of it. That smell like the one of the wet grass in the morning that always reminded Eve of her childhood in the country side with her grandfather. She loved the rain, but not on situations like this.
After a few minutes she decides to take a risk and steps out in the rain. Soon a cab stops in front of her and Eve smiles triumphantly while reaching for the door but someone is quicker than she is, and climbs into her taxi.
' Oi, were you raised by wolves?' she asked the stranger while feeling her blood pressure rising. That was the last drop that filled the glass. Everything Eve wanted on that moment was to run up to her warm and with no stealing cabs individuals, apartment and to get lost in the pages of her last book. She wanted to shout at Sam for setting up this horrible and cruel blind date, she wanted to curse at herself for saying yes in the first place, and most of all, she wanted to punch in the face the stranger before her, who now was checking her out and smirking at her.
