Chapter 2. -The one with the sonogram.

Start from the beginning

Justin : What?

Jen : Honey, he's talking to me.

Jen lifts up her shirt and the doctor rubs out a blue gel on her stomach. It's warmer than she thought it would be.

Dr. Burle : How old are you Jen?

Jen : I'm 42.

Dr. Burle : Mhm.

Jen : Does that change anything, or?

Dr. Burle : It means that you have a higher risk of getting preeclampsia, and a few other...

Justin : Preeclampsia?!

Dr. Burle : Mhm, but you shouldn't worry so much about that, it only increases the risk with two percent if you're healthy.

Justin : Jen is the healthiest person I know about! She drinks water all day every day, exercises, does yoga, runs, works...

Jen : Justin. I'll be fine. It's very rare. Right doctor?

Dr. Burle : It is. And if it do occurs, both the mother and the child can survive if we know about it in time.

The doctor gets the monitor started and shows them something that'll cause Jen's heart to stop, because he shows her something she thought she never would see.

Dr. Burle : Aaaand, there's your baby.

He points at a weird shrimp looking thing that's floating around in her uterus. It's the most beautiful weird, shrimp looking thing Justin's ever seen, and as he already knew it causes him to dwell up.

Justin : Is that? Uhm, is that our child.

Dr. Burle : Yes. Right there. I can see that you're already in week 8, which means that your child is the size of a blueberry now, but it'll grow very fast in the next couple of weeks.

Jen : When will the belly start to show?

Dr. Burle : Normally around the 12th week. That's also the time where the symptoms will really kick in if they haven't already.

Jen : Like what?

Dr. Burle : Like morning sickness, changing moods, a constant need for peeing and food cravings. But you have to remember to stay away from especially smoking and drinking.

Jen : Yes, yes of course.

Dr. Burle : I'll leave you two alone for a minute, while I print out the photo.

Justin smiles at Jen as he sees how happy she is.

Jen : Justin?

Justin : Mhm, isn't it beautiful?

Jen : I can't see it!

Jen lays down in her chair and puts her hands in front of her face. She's mortified of knowing that she can't even see her own baby.

Jen : I can't even see my own child!

Justin : Honey. Honey, I'll show you.

Justin takes her hand and lifts her up, he points at the screen while he explains where their child is.

Justin : You see that oval looking thing, right there?

Jen : Mhm.

Justin : Okay, so that's your uterus, and inside your uterus, right there in...

Jen : Right there in the middle?

Jen points at the weird shrimp looking thing at the screen.

Justin : Yes, right there. That is our child.

Jen : Well I saw that!

Jen sheds some tears as she sees her baby for the first time. She kisses Justin's hand and leans her head on his shoulder.

Jen : I can't believe that that is our baby. This is actually happening.

Justin : Neither can I. But I know that you're going to be a wonderful mother to our child.

Jen : Aw, honey. And I know that you're going to be wonderful too. I wouldn't want any other man to be the father of my children.

The doctor comes in again, and asks them a question they immediately knows the answer to.

Dr. Burle : Do you want to hear the heartbeat?

Both Jen and Justin nods, as they're squeezing each others hands even tighter to let each other know how special this moment is.

Dr. Burle : It's very fast right now, but that is completely normal.

The heartbeat is going twice as fast as Jen's heartbeat, and it causes her to cry even more tears of happiness. It has the same effect on Justin.

Dr. Burle : Here's the first photograph of your baby.

Jen : Is that arms and legs?!

Dr. Burle : Yes, faintly. They're in the beginning stage of the development.

Justin : I can already tell that it has your beauty.

Jen : It's a little shrimp. Do I look like a little shrimp? Well, that's good to know.

Justin : Oh, looks like the mood changes are early.

Jen : Excuse me?

Justin : I'm kidding honey.

Jen : You better be kidding. Cause when I'm as big as a hippo, you have to remember to still call me beautiful. There is after all growing a human in my uterus.

Justin : Oh stop it. When I'm calling you beautiful every single day, you have to know that it's the truth, cause you will look sexy as hell with a pregnant belly. And with a pregnant ass, pregnant boobs...

Jen : Justin!

Jen blushes as she tells him to shut up with an embarrassed voice, but he's actually making her really hot for him. She may not be able to show it to him while the doctor's in the same room, but she'll let him know when they get back home.
