I bounded along the pathway, spring breeze running in my dark-blonde hair, causing it to flap against my forehead with every step I took.

"Careful!" Wilter yelled at me, as I stumbled over his foot, causing the contents of his vegetable basket to spill. I paid no mind to him, as I continued to head north, towards Erine's Blacksmith.

Erine, Erine, Erine!

Her beauty was forever vividly engraved in my mind. I could remember every little detail. How her auburn locks reached to the middle of her back, flowing beautifully down, matching perfectly with her pale, gold eyes. Erine indeed lived up to the title of the Town Beauty.

Erine and I met at the mere age of two, when I was still an orphan. When I was looked down by parents, bullied by the other kids, she protected me, gave me hope, gave me something to live for -- for her.

I snapped out of my recallation when the brick-stone hut came into my view. She looked the same as ever, her white skin contrasting against the ash of the fire.

Erine glanced up at me, and grinned.

Oh that grin, how mesmerizing it was.

Her hair clung to her neck, sticky with sweat. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand, leaving more ash behind, making her look all the more dazzling by the flames.

She hurriedly finished up her work, and we went into her workshop to have a little tea time.

"So," She smiled, her twinkling eyes locking with mine. "How's the fam'?"

Her accent rendered me red.

"F-fine, they're all really nice," I sputtered, choking on my sandwich.

"'At's good," Erine turned back to face her plate of snacks. The silence returned.

I finally have a damn chance but it ends up like shit.

I mentally slapped myself for being such a bore.

"Miss Derkyl?" A gruff voice rang from the counter outside.

Must be the Academy again.

"Tch, be right back," Erine muttered, her face looking darker than usual. She pushed her chair out with a creak and made her way outside, briskly.

I stared at where her figure disappeared 'round the corner, waiting.

**

A few minutes passed and I could still hear Erine's melodic voice in soft whispers outside, but there was something different about the tone she usually used -- it sounded deadly.

I shuddered at the thought of it, and I had to remind myself it was Erine we were talking about here.

How could such a delicate girl be deadly?

I chuckled wearily.

That was before I heard the shattering of glass and china.

"How dare you?!"
