Kate,” I said.
“Okay, I’ll be outside waiting for you,” she said before heading towards the door.

I was a nervous wreck as we walked the three blocks to my mom’s and dad’s
house.
“What are you going to tell them,” Nate asked me.
“That I’m pregnant, what else is there to tell them,” I said. “Either way they’re
not going to be happy.”
“Just remember,” Nate told me, “it doesn’t matter what they say.”
“I know,” I sighed before I knocked on the door and walked in.
“Brittney,” my mom exclaimed, “you’re home!”
“Yeah, be happy for a minute,” I muttered so that nobody but Nate could hear
me. “Mom, do you know where dad is?”
Even though I didn’t get along with my parents I still called them ‘mom’ and
‘dad’.
“He’s in the kitchen,” my mom answered. “Is everything okay, Brittney?”
“I just really need to talk to both of you,” I told her.
“I’ll go get him,” she said. “You two can go upstairs to the office and we can
talk there.”
I nodded my head and led Nate to the office.
“You know,” Nate said as we entered the room, “I don’t think that I’ve ever
really been in your house.”
“I know,” I said.
“Don’t be nervous, just tell them,” he said trying to calm me down.
“I know,” I said again.
“Just remember that I love you,” he replied just before my mom and dad entered
the office.
“What’s up,” my dad asked sitting down.
I looked at Nate before answering my dad’s question by saying, “Look, Nate and
I kind of screwed up and now I’m pregnant.” I said the last word hesitantly.
“What,” my mom shouted.
“By him,” my dad yelled.
“Calm down,” I said close to tears.
“How did this happen,” my mom said hysterically. “That’s it, you two are going
to say goodbye to each other and never see each other again!”
“No,” I shouted. “We’re going to live at his house and raise this baby together. I
don’t care if you two want nothing to do with the baby, but at least we were kind
enough to let you know that biologically you’re going to be grandparents. We’re
