THIRD PERSON OMNISCIENT

"Hey, can you grab that suitcase there?" Eren yelled over his shoulder to Mikasa, who had no intention on helping him in the beginning, but after seeing him trying to carry four boxes at once, she decided to carry at least one thing of his to his dorm room.

"Are you starting to get scared?" She asked quietly as they bounded up the stairs in the dormitory.

Eren scoffed, looking over to Mikasa who was casually carrying his big suitcase with one hand and frowned. "No, not really. I mean, this is what I've been wanting for a long time anyways." He whispered, soundlessly thinking back to when he promised his mother that he'd go to college to pursue his writing career.

That was about eleven years ago, when he lost her to Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

His throat swelled up from the pain of the past and had to look away from Mikasa so that she didn't see his eyes tear up.

An awkward silence hung around them as they continued winding up the stairs to the third floor, and it seemed to stay like that until they reached his dorm room.

Eren was in the middle of pulling his keys out from his back pocket to the door when Mikasa spoke up. "Will you come visit me?"

Eren swallowed dryly. Her voice sounded so broken and so lonely, almost like she'd thought that she would never see him again when she left campus.

Eren sighed and dropped his boxes to the floor, turning towards her so that he could pull her frail body into his arms, embracing her in a tight hug.

"Just because I'm three hours away from our house doesn't mean that I'm not going to come see you, Mikasa."

She released her strong grip on the suitcase and instantly wrapped her small arms around his neck, pressing her face against his chest. He bit back a laugh and pulled her closer to him, feeling her body shake uncontrollably as she broke out into a fit of tears. Eren pulled his eyebrows together in thought and buried his face into her neck, immediately catching a whiff of her familiar scent, cranberries and vanilla.

"It's okay, Mikasa...there's no need to cry. I'm right here..."

She vigorously shook her head and choked on a cry. "D-don't leave me...I-I don't want you to g-go..."

Eren bit his lip. Why did saying goodbye have to be so hard? And why did letting go have to happen?

"I'm sorry, Mikasa. You know that I can't go back with you." Eren quietly whispered, slowly pulling away from her so that he could wipe her tears away. She watched him silently as a few hiccups erupted from her throat from crying so much, and softly smiled.

Eren will never know, but she always loved him more than just her step brother. And after the death of their mother, his mother, he clung onto her more than he did with his father, who left the country for a job opportunity in Germany. They both knew that he had to leave because of how much Eren reminded him of his dearly loved wife.

And after she passed away in a slow agonizing death, the thought of losing her was something that he could not handle, so he fled the country. But he did leave enough money for them to have a comfortable living with Mikasa also working full time and Eren doing part time at a bookstore, and soon enough he sent the full amount for Eren's tuition.

He still called to ask how they were doing and if they needed any money. He also promised that by the end of the year that he'd fly in and visit them for a couple of weeks, which of course , made them super ecstatic to that he'd finally see them.

After a few more moments of acknowledging one another's presence, Eren turned away and opened the door to his dorm so that he could grab his boxes and place them on the floor near his bed. Mikasa strolled in a little bit afterwards, silently carrying his suitcase in both hands as she looked around the extremely large room.
