IT WAS A general rule of thumb at Liberty High that if Rory Price didn't attend your party, it didn't happen. If the event wasn't graced by her royal highness, it was wiped from ever occurring within the social science of the school.

Hannah Baker's party was no different. Most doubted that Rory would turn up as the girl had only moved to Crestmont over the summer, but since it was Kat's 'going away' party some thought the blonde girl would make an appearance.

Hannah thought it was crazy how the kids at Liberty talked about her as if she were some sort of celebrity. She initially thought Kat was joking with her when she first described the rules to her. How could one person make such an impact of the entirety of a high school?

It was around 10 when Hannah caught her first glimpse of the mystic girl. Her blonde hair was mostly braided, some of the strands pulled out to frame her face, and Hannah noticed she wore less makeup than she expected her too. There was a dainty gold chain around her neck, but the pendant was tucked tightly under the black dress she wore. She was as beautiful as everyone described her to be - Hannah would admit to that.

She gazed at her from the porch as she arrived at the party with two boys. As if reading her mind, Kat began to introduce them to her as the garden sprinkler went off. Rory narrowly missed the water, but laughed at her friends as they were soaked.

"Meet the boys." Kat sighed, nodding her head over at them. "Justin Foley is mine. Zach Dempsey is for you." She laughed, wiggling her eyebrows.

Hannah didn't move her eyes from the blonde girl at the front of the garden. She'd moved away from the two boys and headed further down the path. Rory had taken her phone from her pocket (Hannah was amazed her dress even had them), and was almost angrily texting someone.

Thirty seconds later, Hannah watched her front door open and a tall, blonde boy walk out, scanning the garden until his eyes landed on the petite girl waiting for him. She was engrossed in the scene before her, blocking out whatever Kat and Clay were discussing with the boys.

Rory wrapped her arms around the boy, which, even with heels on, was clearly a struggle for her due to their significant height difference. Her boyfriend, Hannah thought to herself. She watched on as the blonde girl whispered something into the boy's ear and removed the cigarette from his hand.

Rory dropped it onto the path and stamped it out with her shoe. The flash of red made Hannah's eyes widen. Sh really was rich.

"We'll take our chances! Go dry off." Hannah heard Kat yell, snapping her back to what she was meant to be interested in. She quickly downed the soda that was left in her cup, and focussed back on the scene.

Justin now has his shirt off and she couldn't help but admire his body. When their eyes finally met, he flashed her a sincere grin that made her insides flip. Hannah couldn't help but smile too, watching in disappointment as he left her house with Zach.

"Katherine! Hey." Rory smiled as she and her boyfriend walked up the steps of Hannah's porch. The brunette noticed that when she smiled, she didn't seem that happy. At all. "I didn't know you were leaving so soon."

"It was a last minute thing." Kat sighed, knowing full well that Rory knew her name wasn't actually Katherine.

"We'll be sad to see you go, won't we Monty?" She looked up at her boyfriend, the smile she wore clearly convincing enough to him.

"Yeah. It was nice knowing you Kat." He grinned, letting go of his girlfriend to hug her. Rory did the same after before they both walked inside.

Kat rolled her eyes when they both left, Clay laughing to himself at the awkward exchange.

"She doesn't look like a Rory." Hannah mused to herself, not expecting anyone to answer.

"That's because her real names Regina. But all the boys used to make fun of her so she changed it." Clay scoffed, remembering the endless teasing Justin Foley and Bruce Walker used to put her through in 3rd grade.

"She seems nice." Hannah shrugged, not wanting to judge the girl before she'd even spoke to her.

"Nice use of juxtaposition." Clay scoffed, finishing his drink like Hannah had minutes prior.

"Don't be fooled by the pink." Kat mumbled, leaving the two out on the porch.

"Is that a Mean Girls reference?" Hannah laughed as she followed Kat and dragged Clay along behind her. They were determined to enjoy the rest of the night, even if Rory Price was determined to make Hannah Baker her new best friend.
