"How long have I been away from him?"

"Three weeks."

"I- three weeks? He must be worried, why can't I see him now? Why haven't I seen him?" (y/n) almost pushed herself off the bed before recalling she didn't have a wheelchair to slide into.

"You have been going under many operations. The device, relinking your special abilities, and your last operation will be... I can't talk to you about it. Just know you need the operation first before you see him, and we need to talk."

"But why should I trust you?" Dr. Ava sighed.

"Because who do you think got you in the same Maze as Newt in the first place?" (y/n) swallowed. Dr. Ava gave a sad smile, adjusting herself. "I don't have much time, but I will explain what I can. You know that every pair has specific abilities?" (y/n) nodded. "Well, some pairings, when the operations first began, could not... withstand the abilities we were trying to give them. Bonds broke, some pairings could not survive. On the contrary, though, some bonds were so great that we were able to implement multiple abilities."

"What does that have to do with me? With Newt?"

"You and Newt have always had a strong bond with each other, which can be, for lack of better word, dangerous if I am honest, but it is also your biggest strength. You are so tightly bond that separation hurts. While you have not been awake for most of your separation, you have experienced many nightmares. Newt has become very suspicious and angry with us as well, part of why you two need to be introduced. We are afraid he may become violent with us soon." (y/n) shook her head.

"Newt- no... he would never." Dr. Ava gave (y/n) a pointed look.

"You'd be surprised by what love can drive us to do. Recall Samantha?" (y/n) looked away from Dr. Ava. "You two were able to re-bond quickly while in the Maze without WICKED's help. Teresa and Thomas also have a strong bond, but it was recreated based on their telepathic ability. You and Newt were able to rebond without WICKED's help. You almost became what Thomas and Teresa ended up being, but certain circumstances prevented that."

"What circumstances?" (y/n) felt a flash of angry panic. Dr. Ava shook her head.

"It is not for me to say. Our time is up. I wish you luck in your next operation. Just think of how you will see Newt after." (y/n) nodded as Dr. Ava stood. Doctors came into the room, looking to (y/n) expectantly as Dr. Ava left. (y/n) held out her arm with a sigh, her palm facing up.

~ Newt's P.O.V. ~

I stared up at the ceiling, tears pricking my eyes. WICKED had a strange set up with each room where there was two beds, yet the other bed across from mine was empty except for (y/n)'s bag she had brought from the Glade. Some other Gladers or members of Group B also had empty beds in their room, while others shared rooms with members from the opposite group.

I turned to (y/n)'s bed. Tommy had been brought back after lunch, but (y/n) still hadn't. I felt an ache in my chest. I missed her so much, yet none of the guards gave me klunk when I asked about her screaming. Everyone else told me it was okay, but after three weeks, almost a month, without her, the cracking weight on my chest told me like a constant reminder it's not okay, not okay, not-

"Newt?" I sat up at the whisper, eyes landing at a silhouette in my door. I crept out of my bed, wiping at my eyes.

"Delilah? What in the bloody hell are you doing here? Why aren't you with Dan?" Delilah frowned, some guilt coming to her features, but  the look quickly faded.

"Dan is asleep. I came to take you to (y/n). She's not awake but..." I nodded, ignoring the red flag on why Delilah knew where (y/n) would be in the first place. "Okay, but we can't stay there long, understand? They have cameras in the room with her, but they have a one-way mirror that we can look through. If she wakes, she won't see us, but we'll see her." I nodded, and Delilah grasped at my wrist, quietly leading me out of the room. Soon we got to a door with plaque sign that had "A4" in the middle. (y/n)'s number. Delilah pushed open the door slowly, then pulled me in. When the door was closed, Delilah let my wrist go.

A sharp tug pulled at me and I turned to the window, seeing (y/n). She was curled on her side, clutching at the blankets that lay over her. For a moment, in my mind we were in the Glade again, and I had woken up before she had. I placed a palm on the glass, taking in (y/n)'s curled up body.

"Why would they keep her in here? What have they been doing to her?" Delilah stepped closer to the glass and stood at my side. She shrugged.

"I overheard some nurses. They just finished some huge operations with (y/n), I couldn't hear what kind though." I sighed, annoyed with WICKED and the way they were being so secretive. "There's a little device on that table over there, I'm willing to bet that's something they did." My eyes searched, landing on the table.

"What the hell is that? Did they take it out of her?" Delilah shrugged again. Down the hall came a series of voices. Delilah turned, wide-eyed. Someone opened the door to (y/n)'s room as Delilah led me away, back to my room.

Author's Note: Some of you may know that I've been rewriting each book in this series, partly to reinspire myself to finish the series, but also to clean up writing I wrote four years ago that may not have been as grammatically correct or be as logical. Generally, the books are the same, though there are minor tweaks I've made plot wise. I hope you enjoy, and I will work as quickly as I can to making new chapters after rewriting these next eight. Thank you for your patience and I hope you all have an amazing day/night :)
