At school, Felix could smell excitement in the air. He looked around, everywhere was just as it were the last time he had been in school. He sighted his group of friends, 'The cruisers' as they usually called themselves,up in a corner, engaged in a discussion as they hardly noticed Felix waving at them.

As Felix walked up to where his friends were, he picked up two stones and threw it at them, breaking up their conversation.
"Hey Felix", Tokunboh called out to him.
" Sup Toks, how ya' all doin' this morning?Gossiping like girls?"
Felix shook the hands of each of his friends as he settled in their midst.
"O boy! You don dey fat oh!Eating Mama's food isn't it?"
This time,it was Ugochukwu who spoke.
"Na you know" Felix hissed at him.

The four boys were chattering excitedly when Johnson suddenly blurted out,
"Guys, look at Ada! She looks more busty! You guys see what I'm seeing?"
They all turned to look at Ada. She was walking along the walkway leading to the assembly ground, heads in the sky, like a model, cat walking along a runway.
"Chai! Johnson! On a Monday morning like this, you're busy checking out girls,I can see that your eyes are busy. May God help you".
They all except Felix laughed at Tokunboh's statement to Johnson. He suddenly remembered the girl he saw while coming to school.
There was something about the girl. The few moments that their eyes locked,Felix felt that she wasn't happy to be here. It was like he saw sadness in her eyes.

He was still lost in thought that he didn't realise that Ugochukwu was calling his name.
" Felix!"
"Huh?" Felix replied, suddenly drifting out of his thoughts.
"What's up with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well", Ugo started,"I was called you three times and you didn't reply"
"Oh!" Felix exclaimed,"That was nothing,I'm fine
Abi one girl don break your heart?"Johnson blurted out again.
'The cruisers' were already used to Johnson and his stupid utterances. He was known for that. They narrowed their eyes at him before bursting into laughter.
"Mumu!" Tokunboh said, smacking Johnson's head.

At eight o' clock, the morning assembly started. The whole students gathered on the assembly ground of Impact high school. Impact high school has its name as one of the most reputable private schools in Lagos. With 6 branches all over the country, it was a school that everyone knew about. People regard the students of Impact high school as ajebutters and they were quite right.

Felix looked around, his eyes went from one student to another. He believed he could tell which student was 'forming posh'. He had already classified three students in that category when a voice called his name. It was a female voice.

Felix looked and saw Isabella waving at him and smiling charmingly. Isabella was his assistant class captain and someone Felix knew has a crush on him. She was dark I'm complexion, always looking fastidiously neat, beautiful and highly refined.
Felix waved back at her, striking one of his well practised smile.

"So you all want Felix to remain your class captain?" Asked Mrs Beatrice.
All the members of the class said yes, then suddenly someone said no. All eyes went to the direction of the voice and it was none other than Akinyele Deji, the one who never agrees with Felix.
Deji was a tall, fair and quite handsome boy, same age with Felix. He was a spoilt child who doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone.
He Was always at Daggers drawn with Felix and everyone knew that.
"Why is this guy always getting on my nerves?" Felix asked silently to his mates.
"Deji", Mrs Beatrice started," everyone except you wants Nwachukwu Felix to remain as class captain. I would like to know why you object to this".
"Well,This Felix has been our class captain since we started senior secondary school and now we are in our final year. I would like a change of power", Deji spoke with so much authority that it seemed like he would kill someone if what he wanted was not granted.
" We are not complaining oh",muttered some students
Felix smiled. He knew why they wanted him to remain as class captain. Aside from his primary duties,he had no power over them. He wasn't a tough guy despite the fact that his face sometimes suggested so.
"I'm sorry Deji. We all know how it goes, majority carries the vote. Felix remains the class captain.
Deji sat down feeling disappointed
Although Felix had no problem with not being class captain, he wasn't going to lose to Deji. He felt satisfied with Mrs Beatrice statement.

Felix started wondering why students gets excited to be in school but once in school, the excitement dies down. He couldn't wait to hear the closing bell.
