"Here are the most suitable candidates, Captain," the young man, stood stiffly before him as if poised to salute at any moment. But the man was not a soldier and the Captain was only that for the team that had been formed specifically for one purpose. As the Captain took the file, which was not overly thick to his grievance, the man's facade began to crumble.

"Speak, what is it you wish to say?" The Captain asked.

"Do we really have to do this?" The man asked, his morals and ethical values had taken a beating these past few weeks and he wasn't sure how much more he could take.

The Captain sighed. He understood where his subordinate was coming from, he didn't like this solution either. He cursed the higher ups for the frivolity and foolishness that had placed them into this situation in the first place. Whose bright idea was it to open an Alien Archive to the public for entertainment purposes anyway? Granted, the Archive stored the history and knowledge of countless worlds, most of which probably no longer existed along with it's creators. The explorers who had discovered it, the scientists who awakened it, they likely had no bad intentions in bringing its existence to light. The data within it was priceless and the Galactic Alliance became enamoured by the idea that people could experience the worlds via virtual connections that already existed. After all, unlike artificially created worlds, with their flaws and bugs and constant need for updates and fixes, these worlds once truly existed...

But it was all a trap. 59 V.I.Ps had virtually logged into the Archive on it's prelaunch day. All 59 failed to log out. After three months and 8 brain deaths including a leading politician and a CEO of a Galactic wide business, the Rescue Squad had not only failed to rescue any of the V.I.Ps, but had increased the number of deaths by 5 and number of comatose by 16. Just one of that team had returned from the Archive, with the Archive's artificial intelligence's demands. It wanted a body.

The Captain shuffled through the file, paper so not to leave an electronic trail, scanning each one of the potential 'bodies' with a quick glance. Young, healthy, men and women, all with similar mental strength and wavelengths. How was he supposed to ask one of them to sacrifice their souls for the 'greater good'? He paused on one for a long moment. His subordinate leaned over slightly to glance at the one who had caught his eye. "Ah, that one must have been filed by accident! I'll just remove it." He stretched his arm out for the file, but the Captain moved it from his reach.

"No," he said, "this one is good. This one might work." The other man looked at him confused. "The higher ups were concerned about what would happen after the System got its body. This could be the solution." He placed the file upon the desk, before lightly touching the photo of this candidate. "Though it's a pity..."

Author's note (latest edit); This story is a System 'style' story.  It will have similarities to other System stories, but it is also very different.  Each arc is also very different to the last, so there will be ones you like and ones you don't.  I have a bit of a tendency to alter the way I write within each arc as well.  And this story is rainbow coloured, but the main characters are male and there will be male love and sex, which will be graphic.   Please be open minded and enjoy reading!  Suggestions are welcome as are comments and votes, but I don't expect them.  Thank you.
