Chapter Nine: A Hit

Start from the beginning

"APD! Open up, please." A wave of relief washed over both you and your father. It was just the police. . .but why were they here? Your father opened the door.

"Hi, sorry to bother you sir, but are you (F/n) (L/n)?" The officer asked, a twinge of sympathy was in play with his expression.

"Yeah, that's me. Who's asking?" Your father asked the officer.

"N-no one sir, I just, um-" He paused mid-sentence and looked away from your father for a second, as if he didn't know what to say.

"Your wife, (M/n), she's been hospitalized." He said, with his head facing the ground. You took in a sharp breath and cupped your hand over your mouth. Your father. . .didn't say anything.

"What happened?" You asked from the back ground, the officer's eyes widened. He must've not realized you where there.

"She was shot in a drive-by, twice. Both shots near her heart. She's—in critical condition." He briefly explained and it felt like a bunch of bricks were being dumped on you. Your father had still yet to say anything.

"I'm sorry sir. We just figured that-"

"Take me to her!" He demanded of the officer. The officer was caught off guard by your father's request at first, but obliged.

"Of course, sir." He said.

"I'm coming too." You say, to which your father immediately responded to.

"No! I don't want you to." He said.

"But she's my mom!" You complained.

"(Y/n), please. . .I'd rather not have my child see their mother in a hospital bed. I don't want you to worry-"

"But what if things get worse and, and!-" He cupped your face and wiped away your tears with his thumb, then brought you into a hug.

"Don't think like that. She'll get through this and for that to happen, she'll need you to stay strong." You let your tears spill into his shoulder as he embraced you, you listened to his words, and couldn't say nothing in return.

"I promise she'll be okay. For right now, I don't want you to see her, because you need to be strong. Not just for yourself but her. . .do you understand?" He asked as he pulled away from you, having his hands placed on your shoulders. You nodded your head, still crying.

"That's my girl." He smiled to you and planted a kiss on your forehead.

"I'll be back." He said, letting go of your shoulders and walking out the house with the officer.

"I'm sorry little lady. . .have a good night." The office said before leaving and closing the front door. You were once again left alone in your house. Nothing but silence surrounded you. Leaving you nothing else for you to think about except for your mother's condition.

The tears never stopped and you stood there for the longest time with your hands covering your eyes. You sniffled, took in quick breaths and rubbed your eyes countless times. You truly felt alone. Until. . .you heard a knock and-

"(Y/n), open up!" You heard him say from the other side of the door. The door was unlocked, because you never bothered to lock it once your father had left with the officer. You just stood there for what felt like forever thinking about only one thing.
