Prologue;
It was ironically the sunniest day Persephone had ever seen when her mother was cruelly stolen from her world. December is full of cold, dreary days but not that day. The sun seemed to mock her, it had such vibrant light; something she would seemingly never have again.
As she held her mothers hand she watched her frail body lying on the hospital bed. Her mothers grey eyes had been staring into her own golden eyes for the past 10 minutes, as if she was trying to just get lost in the haze. Her mother didn't want to leave her 15 year old daughter to fend for herself, that was why she had fought the cancer with all of her might. Though, it did consume her in the end.
"Persephone, never lose your spark. Just because I won't b-be here with you physically doesn't mean I won't be with you" Jessamine, her mother whispered.
Persephone felt the need to cry, but couldn't. Is it possibly to be so broken that you couldn't even bear to cry? Persephone wondered if she was even sad anymore, she was more--numb?
"Your eyes, they've lost their light" her mother looked up at her through tear stained eyes. Persephone had always wondered why everyone envied her bright golden eyes. Sure, they were unique but she honestly never saw them as something beautiful. They were bright, but the disease that should've just been affecting her mother had affected her; a lot.
"I love you" Persephone whispered to her mom. She knew this time it wasn't just a scare. Her mom was dying. She would never see her lively grey eyes open again.
And all she felt was numbness.
"I love you more than words could ever say Pers" her mother said, her eyes slowly closing to their inevitable fate.
Then it hit persephone like a freight train. She had no one left. She was alone.
The last thing persephone remembered about that day was her throwing something, shouting, and the ground slowly falling out from under her.
