Physical Therapy

"please just leave me alone." I say interrupting whatever my dad was saying 

"We'll be out in the hallway. This conversation is not over Bram" I don't understand how my mom is okay with sending me out to live with him. There has to me more to this story.

"I'm sorry we woke you up" I tell Simon breaking the silence. 

"I'm sorry I ruined your life" he starts crying again. I really hate that I can't go over there and hug him and hold him.

"Simon stop" 

"Your dads words not mine" 

"My dad is an asshole" 

"Are you actually leaving?" 

"No! I don't know who my dad thinks he is. He hasn't talked to me for a few months and now he's going to tell me that I'm moving in with him? I don't understand." 

"Why isn't your mom saying anything about it. Why is she letting this happen?" 

"Hell if I know" 

"I'm sorry Bram"

"It's not your fault babe. I'll figure this out" 

"I love you. " 

"I love you more" 

"I wish I could come over there and kiss you. " 

"Tell me about it" 

"MY BOYSSSSS!!!!" We look over at the door and see Nick standing there with his signature smile on his face.

"Nick!" Simon and I say

"How is my favorite couple?" 

"Broken" Simon tells him

"oh shit that's a big ass cast." He says to Simon

"Oh shit look at yours!" he tells me

"we'll be fine" 

"Soon right? Practice isn't the same when you're not there. We all miss you man. " 

"I miss you guys too. But I don't really know when I'll be able to play again. It's not going to be anytime soon." 

"What?" 

Before I could respond Garett, Leah, and Abby all walk in with balloons, flowers and a bunch of stuffed animals for us. 

"damn guys you really didn't have to bring us anything." Simon tells them as Abby and Leah hug him. 

"How are you two holding up?" Leah asks us

"We're going to be okay" Simon responds. 

"Greenfeld! I miss making you look like a fool at practice. The teams not the same without you." 

"I'm sure you miss me kicking your ass at drills " We both laugh and I guess sitting out is going to be a lot harder than I thought.

"We have states soon. You're going to be up for it?" 

"um Garett, I can't play for a while." 

"Funny. But for real when are you coming back?" 

"I'm not joking. I can't even walk right now." 

"Wait are you serious?" Abby asks me 

"You can't walk?" Leah asks while looking at my entire leg wrapped up

"They said that once I get my cast off which probably won't be for a while I have to go to a bunch of physical therapy appointments to re learn how to do all this shit with my leg. And what makes this situation worse is that my dad wants me to move in with him to go to some doctor over there for physical therapy." It felt good to get all of that out.

"Holy shit Bram." Garett says

"I know."

"He lives like 4 hours away. You aren't going to graduate with us are you?" 

"I'm doing my best to try and convince them to let me stay here. I'm really  trying guys." 

"Wait your mom is okay with you living with him?" 

"I guess. She told me that we are going to finish talking about it later." 

"No I'm not letting you leave! You have to walk across stage with us! You have to stay at Creekwood!" Garett says while storming out of the room 

"Garett where the hell are you going?" I can't get up and chase him which makes this even more frustrating. 

He comes back in a few minutes later pulling my dad into the room by his arm and my mom shortly behind the two of them

"Do you see this? " he says pointing at all of us in the room

"These are the people who helped Bram through everything for as long as I can remember. We were there for him when you two weren't. When you two first started fighting when we were like nine or something I let him vent and cry and stay at my house so he didn't have to hear your bullshit. Or when he first started questioning his sexuality when we were 12 and he didn't have anyone to talk to because he was afraid of what the two of you were going to think of him he came to me and I helped him as best as I could. "  Garrett says 

"When you guys got divorced and he felt so fucking alone so I let him stay at his house for over a week so he didn't have to see you move out or you guys fighting.And when his mom first started working night shifts but didn't want to be alone Garrett and I would let him crawl through our window at any time of the night. " Nick adds on 

"How about the time when you disowned him after he came out to you. We were there for him to tell him that there's nothing wrong with him and he's not broken. " Abby says

"Simon makes him so fucking happy, Leah is always ready to talk about whatever book the two of them had just read and challenged each other to see who could finish it first. Abby makes him laugh and Nick and I have been bestfriends with him since the third grade. So no he's not moving with you and he's graduating with us at the end of next month and he's staying here. " Garrett snaps.

I don't think I say this enough but I fucking love my friends.

"I never disowned him. I just have to fix him. Which is why he's coming to live with me. " 

"He's not going anywhere. " 

"I don't know what happened to you and Nick but I know your parents won't be happy when I tell you about this outburst" my dad tells Garett

"Tell my dad whatever the fuck you want to. He taught me to stand up for the people I love. That's exactly what I'm doing. " 

"We will talk about this later Abraham" my dad says while walking out
