(Y/n) POV:

The ride to New York was long and boring. Honestly I've never been through anything more boring in my life. I tried to make small talk with my mom but she wouldn't answer. All she would do is stare out the window and grunt. Hours and hours passed. I couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried. And then finally after hours of sitting in the cramped carriage we arrived.

''Wow! It's New York city." I said astonished. "Yup it's New York." my mom said with a depressed sound in her voice. I could tell she was sad about something but shrugged it off thinking she just missed home. But hey this is our new home now! The driver pulled up to a small house. "Here we are." mom said getting out of the carriage. I grabbed my suitcase and jumped out of the carriage. The house was smaller than our last one but I didn't care. I was going to make the best out of living here. We walked into the house with our luggage. There were no stairs, making it one story. "I'm going to my room to unpack." I told my mom as I walked away. "Okay" she called back.

When I walked in I noticed my room was smaller but had more things in it. It came with a bed, a side table, a chair, a dresser, a lamp, and a bathroom connecting to it.

(I know there's no dresser but imagine there is one)

"Wow I already like my room better than the last one." I mumbled. I unpacked my dresses and neatly put them in my drawers. When I finished I walked back out to the living room (it had a sofa and chair. IMAGINATION!). My mom was sitting on the sofa reading a book. "Watcha reading." I asked as I plopped down beside her. "Common Sense by Thomas Paine. It's good, you should read it."she said still looking down at the book. "Maybe when your done I will. You know how much I love to read." I said. "Oh yes. You never stop talking about your books." she said finally looking me in my (e/c) eyes while smiling. "Do you mind if I go downtown to look around. You know, get to be adventurous." I said basically begging her. I always loved adventures and I wasn't scared of the world. "Sure but you can't go like that. You should wanna look presentable for the men out there. You're at the age where you should be looking. Heck you should've been looking a long time ago!" she rambled. "Fine!" I said with an annoyed tone.

I walked into my room and rummaged through all of my dresses. And finally I found the perfect one. It was red/maroon and black. (Sorry I'm terrible at describing dresses so here's to show you what it is).

I put the dress on and put my (h/l) (h/c) hair up in a neat bun (if you have short hair choose what style you would like)

I put the dress on and put my (h/l) (h/c) hair up in a neat bun (if you have short hair choose what style you would like). I put a little bit of make up on, but not that much so I looked natural. When I finished I walked downstairs and was about to walk out the door when my mom heard me and shouted from the kitchen "Go get em girl!". I chuckled as I walked out the door. My mom had her moods at times but I still loved her. She's the only family I have since the incident that killed my older sister and dad. It was sad and I don't want to think about it right now.

I strolled down the sidewalks of New York. I decided to walk because why not. It was nice outside and I could hear birds chirping. When I started seeing shops I browsed around the stores looking at all the random things. One that caught my eye was the book store. I've already read most books at the store in Virginia but maybe there's some new ones here. I walked in and looked around. But I wasn't watching where I was going and accidentally bumped into a man. "I'm so so so sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you!" I said hoping he wouldn't yell at me. He was taller than me but I was short. He had dark skin and brown hair. "It's fine miss don't worry about it" he said with a soft smile on his face. "Aaron Burr. Please to meet you miss...". "Uh, (Y/n) (L/n)! Pleasure to meet you Mr. Burr" I said trying to not make a fool of myself. "So what's a young lady like you doing here?" he asked. "Uh just looking for a new book to read". "Have you read Common Sense? It's a good book going around right now." he suggested. "No but I'll read it. My mother says it's very good". "Here take my copy I've already read it twice." he said handing me the book. "Oh I couldn't it's yours." I said pushing it away. "No I insist". "Well if you insist, I guess I will." I said taking it from him. "Well you should probably head home it's getting dark and you don't want to be out late. That's when the drunk men come out." he said showing me the sunset. "Oh yes I really should. Well thank you for the book Mr. Burr. I hope to see you around?" I asked. "I hope so." he said as I turned around.

I walked out the door and walked home. When I arrived I went inside and to my room. I changed into my nightgown and crawled in bed. Burr was nice but not my type. Sure he loved reading but I want someone outgoing and funny. Burr seemed like the calm type that liked to wait for things. Maybe tomorrow I'll find someone else. I mean let's hope, right? I started to ignore my thoughts and close my eyes. Soon enough I drifted off into a deep sleep.
