Chapter 1- Another Case

20 2 1

Dean glanced down at his ringing phone and rolled his eyes as he picked it up with one hand, the other being occupied by a bacon cheeseburger from the nearest diner.
"Hey, Jeff! How's it goin'?"
"I've been alright, but hey, I have a case here that you might wanna check out."
"Okay, hit me." Dean put his cheeseburger down on its white, paper wrapper.
"It's this lady that your dad knew well, Veronica's 'er name. Ever heard of her?" Jeff said with his thick southern accent. Dean leaned back in his chair, putting one hand on his knee and giving Sam a look, letting him know something was up.
"Yeah, I've met her once or twice."
"Yeah? Well she called me earlier and asked me to watch her daughter for a little bit. She even told me a list of her likes and dislikes before I could agree to it."
"So you're calling me for help with munchkin control?" Dean furrowed his eyebrows.
"No, I'm calling you because she said she wouldn't be back for awhile and there was something she wanted me to give her daughter after the first of November. Dean, she is making it sound like she is about to die, but she won't tell me anything so I thought that since she and your father were so close she would tell y'all what's going on. She mentioned something about keeping her daughter away from Kroger, or Crogey, but that's it."
Dean raised an eyebrow, "Crogey, huh?"
"Yeah, and I'm also gonna be out of town on the days she needed me to watch her daughter."
"Oh, nice." Dean said with sarcastic excitement, "Sam and I will be there ASAP and we'll see what's-uh- what's going on. Thanks for the call, Jeff."
"No, thank you. Bye now." Jeff ended the call. Dean looked at his phone then put it down on the table.
"What was that about?... And. Crogey?" Sam tilted his head to the side in confusion. Sam was seated across from Dean at the small table in their motel room with his computer in front of him.
"Crowley might be in the Heart of Dixie. We should probably go see what he's up to."
Sam shut his computer and began putting it up, "Then let's go."
"Looks like these Louisiana vamps are gonna have to wait. Hopefully no one has an interview anytime soon." Dean smiled at Sam who raised an eyebrow and shook his head as he walked away to start packing.

"Okay so, who is Veronica?" Sam took his gaze away from the car window to look at his brother. Dean adjusted his grip on the steering wheel and looked at Sam then back at the road.
"You've met her. Remember that case in Alabama with those people who were hosting wendigo fights? It was a year or so before you left for college."
"Oh, so the lady that helped us, that was Veronica? What would Crowley have to do with her?" Sam squinted at the road.
"I don't know, Sammy, but I plan on finding out."
