Why now?

When you were a mere 5-year-old, your mother told you the tale of her soulmate, and how one came to receive one.
Every night since, you've held onto her words and kept them close to your heart, though she passed away when you were 10. "It will hurt, but that's ok. It's good to feel it because there is someone on the other end feeling it too. You will never be alone, y/n, remember that. There is someone on the other side of that feeling, and when you find them, it will be the best day of your life, whenever that may be. The pain will go away, and you will find happiness in even the painful days. Just have a little patience, and wish for the best.."
You woke up from memories that had become dreams, every night, the same. You and your mother. It made you happy to see her in your dreams and see her face. You thought that maybe after 6 years, you would've forgotten her e/c eyes and flowing h/c locks. But there she was. It made you glad to wake up every morning.

It was simply another good day, working hard to achieve good marks in your AP classes, while also juggling extracurriculars. You walked back to your apartment in Queens, where you lived with your father and dog, p/n. Your dad was on a work trip in Chicago, but he trusted you to be alone for a few days, and your neighbors took good care of you anyway. "P/N I'M HOOOMMMEEE!" your fluffy pooch came flying at you, tongue lolling and happily wagging his tail. You patted his head and made your way to your bedroom. Exhausted, you flop in your bed and bury yourself in blankets, accidentally falling into a fateful doze, dreaming of better days.

Though you were only asleep for an hour, until 5, you could've slept longer. But the fact that you had a Biology test the next day startled you out of your reverie. "Shit! Well, at least I still have a couple hours." You got to work, writing down the organic compounds and memorizing stupid scientists. Nonetheless, you worked into the night.
At 8ish you took a stretch break, when something felt suddenly very wrong. Crack."AHH MOTHERFUCKER!"
You fell to the floor, writhing in pain from what seemed like a cracked rib. "Who the hell is my soulmate, and why are they out at 8pm getting cracked ribs?" You slowly got up and called your best friend, f/n.
"f/n, I'm pretty sure my soulmate and I are fucked up really badly. Of course, the first sign that I've ever felt is a freaking cracked rib. How fast can you get here? I think I need help."

PETER'S POV
"Why couldn't you have just been the tech guy? He wouldn't have been this annoying to fight." Peter dodged several electro-charged punches, which he rather wouldn't be doing when he had a biology test to study for. It was pretty easy, but he thought he should still look over his notes for a little bit. "Well kid, you've been causing some problems for the boss, so he thought it'd be easier for me to take care of you quickly." The shocker threw a devastating punch at Peter's chest, which was wide open. It hit him square in the ribs. Crack.
"Shit! Really? That's gonna take forever to heal!" Peter clutched his side with one hand, shooting a web with the other. The web pins Shocker to the wall behind him. "I'll finish you up another time, shocky! See ya." Peter swung carefully knowing that his soulmate, whoever it might be, was probably in a hell of a lot of pain. "Hang in there, whoever you are. It'll hurt you more than it'll hurt me." He ducks into the alley next to his apartment building and changes out of his Spidey suit.
BF/N'S POV

Just as Peter is about to walk into the building, he's hit by a wall. Or maybe a person, he couldn't tell. "Really dude? My best friend has a fucking broken rib, and I kinda have to get to her before she calls her dad and gives him an aneurysm." f/n was really worried for you, and really didn't feel like dealing with this guy right now, so she dashed through the doors, and towards the elevator. Just as she is about to hit the button for the 7th floor, the guy dashes through into the elevator. " What gives man? I told you I can't deal with you right now." She was a little pissed, but obviously, something was up. "I just uh, I live here too. And besides that, did you say a broken rib?" The guy seemed a little too interested in your condition, f/n thought. "Ya, she said she thinks it's her soulmate. She was literally just doing homework when SKADOOSH, she felt her rib crack. Why?" The guy's eyes widened. "Aw man, I got a cracked rib today from falling... Do you think that--"
"You.Are.Her. Soulmate. You've gotta be! I mean who the fuck gets a broken rib at the same time in the same city? You might wanna come up with me, and I guess it would be fine because you somehow live here too." f/n was ecstatic, as she has probably just discovered the most important person in her best friend's life. She had seen him at school before, but he was pretty shy and just stuck to hanging out with those guys Ned and Michelle. Maybe he needed the extra push.

Y/N'S POV
"Ya know, this is healing surprisingly quickly. Not that I'm complaining, it's just suspicious," you said to no one in particular. Just as you laid back down on your comfy bed, you here a knock on the door. "ughhh why I just sat downnnn." You whined. Of course, f/n shows up just as you get comfy. You shuffle to the door, gently cupping your chest, as not to injure your ribs anymore.
"F/n, thank GOD you're here, this just happened out of nowhere and it hurts like shit, I could use the comfort, and-- Wait, who is THAT?" You said perplexed. You were pretty sure you'd seen him before, but you had no idea why he was with your best friend. "y/n, this is Peter, Peter, y/n. He nearly crashed into me when I got to your building. and he was complaining about the same rib injury. Except it was actually HIS fault, not yours. So I'm 99% sure he's yours." You weren't really listening to f/n, because as soon as f/n introduced Peter, it felt like all the weight was lifted from you. The pain you had once felt, and everything before that was suddenly gone. You felt physically and mentally healed. Your mom was right, about everything. You could tell Peter felt the same, as you saw his eyes shift to you, and widen suddenly, the most glorious look on his face. " He's the one, f/n." Peter strode toward you and engulfed you in a bone-crushing hug, though you didn't feel any pain at the moment. You cherished his gentle scent, his soft curling hair, even his face was smooth and beautiful. You really didn't understand why you never noticed him before, or why you never felt anything considering you'd seen him get beat up by Flash plenty. You suppose there's a time for everything.. He listened to your heart beat steadily, as he rubbed your back and held you to his chest. f/n silently tiptoed out, letting you get lost in the moment with Peter.

" I think I needed that broken rib."

" I think I needed you."
