Niall POV
I wasn't sure what was wrong with Megan, but I could tell it would be a while before she warmed up to me. When I got back to the house, the boys all stared at me.
"How'd it go with Prison Girl?", Louis asked.
"Megan", I said, "her name is Megan. And, it didn't go so well".
"What do you mean?", Liam asked.
"Well", I started, "she got upset because I kinda told her that I didn't think she was innocent. She got up and left before we even finished".
"Oooh, burn", Harry said, "a girl in prison didn't want you. That's a new low". I picked up a pillow and threw it at him. He laughed.
"It doesn't matter. I'm not giving up on this".
Zayn started laughing. "Are you trying to make her fall in love with you or something?"
"No", I said, "but I will make her like me as a person. So, it doesn't matter how many times I have to go to that prison, she will like me".
The next day I got dressed early, and Paul drove me to the jail.
"Megan Clark", I said to the guard. He led me there, and I sat down. I still wasn't used to how pretty she was. It took me off guard when she walked in. Her eyebrows rose when she saw me.
"Maybe, I wasn't clear when you last showed up, but I don't want to see you".
"No, I understood", I said.
"Then, why are you here?"
"I think I can change your mind".
"Well, I don't think so, you might as well leave".
"I'm not going anywhere until you talk to me".
"You'll be waiting for a long time", she said.
She sat down. I didn't say anything. She didn't say anything. We sat in silence for the entire hour. When the guard said time was up, I waited for her to stand. "Better luck next time", she said and walked out. As I was leaving, the guard stopped me.
"She can be really stubborn", he said, "so it might be a while before she actually likes you. She's been here for a long time, and she just started tolerating me".
"Thanks for the head's up", I said, "but I'm still doing it".
I walked out. Well, she didn't talk today, but tomorrow was a new beginning. When I got home, the boys were all huddled around the computer.
"Hey", Harry said when I walked in, "come look at this".
"What is it?"
"We googled your girl", Zayn said, "she's hardcore".
"Really?"
"Yeah, apparently, she robbed a gas station and held the clerk at gunpoint".
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, during her trial, her lawyer told her to take the plea bargain, which would have given her less time. But, she refused, and she got more. The video of the robbing has yet to be released, so all we have is this news article".
"Wow", I said. So, why did she want me to believe that she didn't do it? The article clearly proved that she did.
The next day I got up and did it all again. She still wouldn't talk to me, so we sat in silence again. I heard the guard laughing in the background when she walked out.
"I told you", he said. The next 2 times I went there, nothing changed. Her eyes were gorgeous, though. They were a deep green. On the 5th time that I visited, she surprised me.
"Okay, what is your problem?", she demanded.
"You spoke to me".
"Yeah, and, again I ask, what is your problem? What kind of dude sits here for 4 visits and sits while I say nothing to him?"
"A determined one?"
"No, a stupid one. What do you want from me?"
"A chance", I said, "don't just stop talking to me because I may have said that you're not innocent. Give me a chance. Yes, I was wrong to just assume that when we first met. Let me get to know you, and then, let me make my decision on my own. You say that you're not judging me, but you are. You haven't stopped since I got here".
"Fine", she said, "what do you want to know?"
"How do you like it here?" She rolled her eyes at me. "Fine. Dumb question. Tell me about your family".
"I don't want to talk about them".
"Why not?"
"I just don't. New question".
"Okay, tell me about your friends, boyfriend, anything". "
Okay, fine", she said, "my best friend's name is Emmy, and she's the best friend that anyone could have. We've been friends since we were 2. We were even neighbors. She's the only person that visits beside you. Every other day, she's here, and I love her even more for it. As for boyfriends, well, not many boys want to date a girl who's doing time".
"That's the best thing I've heard you say since I met you. It's the only thing that actually put a smile on your face".
"So?"
"You have a beautiful one. You should smile more".
"There isn't much to smile about when I'm in jail for a crime that I didn't do. You don't know how much I hate it here".
"I'm not surprised that you hate it here. No one likes prison".
"It's even worse when you know the person who did the crime".
"Wait, what?"
"The crime that I'm in here for, I know who did it".
"Then, why don't you tell someone?"
"You don't think I've tried that? No one believes me. Not even you".
I wish I could tell her that I did believe her. But, she would know that I was lying. "See? I can see it in your eyes. Even after all I've done, you still don't believe me".
"Well, lucky for you, we have a lot of time on our hands. Keep trying to convince me that you're innocent".
Oooh, we're getting to the good part. (:
