Portland,Maine 1908

A man and woman watched from the porch as their daughter played with her younger twin brothers.Despite the happy sight before them neither of them smiled, they both stood in silence.

"You said it was the only way to keep her safe." The man hissed clearly upset with his wife.

"I can find another way, I will." The woman turned to her husband defiance clear in her eyes.

"We don't have time for you time find another way Anastasia. It won't be long before she finds her. I will not allow my daughter to be killed."

"I don't want our daughter to be killed either but I also don't want to send her forward in time without us Frederick. She'll think we abandoned her."

"We've already discussed that you would take away her memories. There won't be a day I won't mourn for my baby girl, she doesn't need to mourn for us she doesn't need to experience that pain." Frederick cleared his throat turning away from Anastasia continuing to watch his children play.

Anastasia couldn't help but feel guilty as she also turned back to look at her children. Frederick was perfectly normal his mother wasn't a goddess from another world like hers was.She had told him this right before he proposed to her,how she was different but he didn't care and married her anyway. If he had married someone else he wouldn't have to worry about this. Despite Frederick being accepting there were just somethings that he couldn't comprehend about Anastasia's life. This was one of them, he was taking out his frustration on her. He could barely look at Anastasia for more than a minute and he didn't kiss her like he used to not since they learned that one of the reigning goddesses of Erris wanted their daughter dead. She would make Frederick forget too. Forget about her power's about how she was far from normal. Yes,she would make him think she was normal. She would make him think that Vera-Evangeline died from consumption.Sure he would mourn for awhile but overtime he would become happy again.

Anastasia turned back to her Eva playing then bit her lip to hold back tears before nodding in agreement to herself and Frederick. "Okay." she whispered.

"I can't believe you are willingly driving from Portland back to D.C." Elise's best friend Carmen scoffed through the phone "You know there is a thing called a plane right? Much faster than a car, much more relaxing."

Elise laughed at her best friend. "Driving for me is relaxing. It's a beautiful car ride, and besides I drove up here I am not paying to have my car shipped back to me." Elise flicked on the windshield wipers as it started to rain slowing down her speed a little as it got heavier.

"You know since you love driving so much you should come and visit me."

"I can't work." Elise replied feeling slightly guilty she hadn't seen her best friend in over a year even though she only lived twenty minutes away.

"I'm sure you can break away from that strategic homeland whatever for a few hours to come visit me."

Before Elise could reply that she really couldn't she slowed down as her headlights shined on a little girl sitting on the side of the road by herself. Elise came to a stop staring at the little girl waiting for her to disappear. Maybe she was a ghost she was just outside of Portland which is a really old town, she had heard stories of people seeing ghosts walking along the sides of roads appearing out of nowhere and disappearing just as quickly. But no matter how many times Elise blinked the little girl was still there.
