I went over everything in my head as I paced back and forth in my room. I saw her, Aurora that is. I didn't know why, but she told me her story. I remembered the golden color of the sun and the lonely hue of the moon.
She had been sleeping, the pain of being without her soulmate had crippled her. She'd let him go, but she never stopped loving him; Apollo. Now, it was my turn.
The story she told me was one of reincarnation. She had been reincarnated many times since the beginning. She was tired, so this was- I was- her last chance.
Her spirit was dying, she needed to see him, one last time. She wanted to be with him once more. If she found him, she would be saved. She had no will to keep going, but he would bring hope. To know that her lover was happy always, for all of time.
So it was up to me to find him.
Apollo.
There was obviously more to the story than the eye could see, but I didn't know how I would find him, not until the vision had cleared and I saw the wolf.
He was no ordinary wolf, the vision told me so.
I wasn't sure how much more I could handle at the moment, so I did what I did best, got out my laptop to write. First I started with a simple journal entry. The normal craziness of a teenage girl. Then, I went into my documents so that I could continue working on the story I had been writing for two years.
A Romance.
I was almost done with it, all that was left was to sacrifice someone, but who? I had connected to each and every one of my characters in a special way. Killing them off, even for the greater good would tear my heart out, but someone had to go.
I typed, pressed the backspace button several times, and then wrote some more. Nothing seemed right.
I was brought out of my writing craze when the doorbell rang. I made my way downstairs, my feet making no noise as they crossed the carpeted floor.
I opened the door and was surprised by who I saw.
Ryn, the cave tour guide, and Ryan, the EMT.
They both smiled before speaking.
"Hi!" Ryn said.
I nodded and said hello back.
"Uh... not to be rude, but what are you guys doing here? How did you even get my address?"
Ryan chuckled as I opened the door to let them inside. I wasn't sure why I did, but something told me I could trust them.
"Funny story actually, our dad works with your dad," he said as he looked around the room.
"Turns out your dad was really upset that he couldn't be home with you for a few days, I mean, after all, a cave in can be traumatic. We went in to see our father and just happened to hear your dad talking about you, so he asked if we would mind checking in."
My eyes narrowed. I looked at the pair.
"You guys are siblings?" I asked as if that was all I had gotten out of the one-sided conversation.
Ryn chuckled at that.
"Twins actually. Most people don't put two and two together since we work in different fields. Anyway," she said, her voice becoming upbeat and chipper.
" Your dad said that we could take you out, and not to take no for an answer. He doesn't want you to become a shut-in. So I'll come help you pick something out and we can go someplace cool!" Ryn said as she grabbed onto my arm and hauled me toward the stairs.
She acted as if she knew me my entire life. If I was honest, I wasn't much of a people person, but I tended to go with the flow. Weird, I know.
I pointed to the open bedroom door and she waltzed in as if she had been there a million times before as if she had ever lived here.
"That's not what you're wearing right?" she questioned looking at my outfit. I looked at myself in the full-length mirror. What was wrong with what I had on?
I wore a simple pair of jean shorts and an old t-shirt that mom had gotten from the airline for being an exemplary employee.
She shook her head.
"Closet?" she asked as she pointed to a small door. I nodded. As she opened the door all I did was manage to stare at it. I had several feather stickers covering up the upper part of the door, and everything that wasn't covered with a sticker was either covered with blue paint or the remnants of what had once been painted.
She squealed a moment later as she threw a pair of skinny jeans onto my bed. I went over and examined them. There were small holes in the knees, and I was pretty sure they were not designed that way. They mostly looked new, but there were worn spots here and there, obvious signs being that of the fading of the color. A small chain was attached to two belt loops, and I remember how much I used to love feeling the cold, smooth metal of it as it ran across my fingers.
I went to turn to Ryn to figure out how badly she was trashing my wardrobe when a thin fabric was flung onto my face. I grabbed it by the hanger and distanced it from my face. It was an ocean blue colored tank top. Over that was a thin layered piece, that looked like a poncho, but it was see-through, and the same color as the tank top.
I smiled. That had always been my favorite shirt. My mother had gotten it for me for my sixteenth birthday on one of her trips to London.
Ryn gingerly closed the closet door before she looked at me.
"Okay now," she said, "Hurry up and get dressed, we're going to make sure you have a blast!"
She quickly exited the room, probably hoping that the faster she left me, the quicker I'd get dressed.
"This is so exciting!" I heard from the living room.
"This is just the beginning."
