SYNOPSIS:
in which richie tozier faces his biggest challenge yet: make the girl with no emotions fall in love with him.
kennedy carter is derry's robot. that's how all of derry high sees her as, anyway.
kennedy "daddy issues" carter as they also like to call her is really just like everyone else. sure, she lives in the "bad" part of town, and sure, it's not like she has any friends, but it has never been a problem for kennedy. she liked living her life in solitude. it suited her.
richie "trashmouth" tozier has made crude remarks about kennedy for years, just trying to get a rise out of her. the most he's ever gotten is an eye roll, and it infuriates him to no end. he calls kennedy his macadamia nut, and he's determined to get her to crack, even if his life depends on it.
so the summer between sophomore and junior year, richie makes a vow to his friends that he will get kennedy to respond to one of his comments by the end of summer. eddie raises him one and bets that he can't get kennedy to fall in love with him in that same deadline.
richie tozier isn't one to back down from a dare.
NOTES:
- this is based on the song 'hollow' by belle mt so i would highly suggest familiarizing yourself with the song before tackling this because the lyrics really play out how the rest of the story goes
- when i mean that kennedy has no emotions, i don't mean the cliché "she hides them to protect herself until a certain boy comes in and uncovers them" bullshit. i mean she feels nothing. getting kennedy to fall for richie is gonna take richie trying to do a lot of out of character romantic shit that kennedy just isn't having
- kennedy has daddy issues!! like she's kind of like bev in a way, but her father is a dead beat. can't hold a stable job, beats her, makes her do some not okay stuff. you name it, he's done it. it's what caused her to be so emotionless, over the years she's learned to hide them away until they're not existing at all.
- just because kennedy doesn't FEEL anything doesn't mean she doesn't have a personality or doesn't think. she should be very sarcastic, witty, and quick on her feet. she can still laugh at jokes she finds funny and stuff it's just the emotion is incredibly fleeting
- it'd be cool to see the loser's club offer like a prize to richie that makes him want to pursue this. the prize is up to you but it should be big enough to be a driving force in the plot to make him not want to give up
- as the summer goes on richie does end up falling for her yes
- richie should like kiss her once and he has this big epiphany about life and love and kennedy is just like "your lips are chapped" i think having that in the middle would be drop dead hilarious
- i can really see two alternative endings to this story: one, the last chapter ends with richie just doing like a mundane thing not some big romantic gesture and kennedy's heart like "leaps into her throat" and it ends with "she felt her body swell with emotion" (counteracting the whole hollow theme) OR maybe kennedy starts falling for him too and realizes that it's okay to feel emotions that you won't always get hurt and then she finds out that the whole reason richie started this was to win a dare and they don't end up together and it ends sadly. honestly either way could work so whatever you're feeling by the end go for it
