It's You... - Part 1

PROLOGUE! MUST READ!

As darkness engulfed the streets, the dim lights lit her path. With tears in her eyes she clutched the quiet babe to her chest tightly as she knelt down to the cobblestone step of the oak door before her. Her past was not one she wanted for her baby girl. Beaten, tortured, and raped by a cruel trio of men. She had barely been able to slink out of her hospital bed and passed the three that put her there. This was not the life she dreamed of when she told her mother she would be moving from their home in Canada to the UK for school. 

The infant wiggled in her arms and cooed a sweet sound that made her heart skip. "They would do everything they did to me, to you... I hope some day you understand that I did this to protect you." She kissed her forehead, lingering, never wanting the feeling in her heart to disappear. Finally she looked down at the wrapped up bundle in her arms. A full head of black curls, caramel skin, and dopey brown eyes. She was perfect in every way, but she knew it was too dangerous to keep her. Her own hazel eyes stared back at her child, she almost envied her, seeing the happiness and wonder on her face. She laid her down and fished into her back pocket for the note she had written back at the hospital.

Please,

Whoever you are, take care of my baby girl. Love her, and I always will.
When the time comes and she ever wants to see my face, please,
give her this note. At the back is the address of her grandmother's in 
Canada. I hope to meet her there when things are better than they are.
Please, tell her I will always love her, every day of her life. 

Her name is Rowan Silverwolf.

She tucked the note into the folds of her blanket and opened the clasp of the moon necklace she always wore, placing it around her neck. "Never take this off Rowan... So mommy will always be with you." With a final sob she kissed her forehead once more, rang the doorbell, and ran as fast as her weakened legs could, to the other side of the open brick wall. As she hid, the cry of her baby tore a gaping hole in her heart. Covering her mouth to stop from sobbing in pain and heartbreak she watched, waiting for the door to open.

"Coming~!... Benedict, sweetheart would you mind getting that for me darling?" Wanda's sweet voice sang. Without a fuss young Benedict flew to his feet to do as his mother instructed. As he got closer and closer to the door, he could feel something wasn't right. Cautiously he opened the door, just a crack. The sound of an infants cries pierced his ears. He looked down to see the tiny bundle, his heart shattered. Benedict was utterly defeated. Gingerly he bent down to pick up the infant. Her cries stopped almost immediately. He stared back into her chocolate eyes - he stood there for a moment, lost in her sweet nature. A glimmer of light hit the chain around her neck, causing his attention to divert to the note carefully folded in her blanket. "Ben... Ben dear is everything alright?" He read the note with a heavy heart, unable to hear his mother's call. He was speechless. As he finished the note, he looked back down at the miracle in his arms. She hadn't taken her eyes off of him once. She wiggled and cooed, the eight-teen year old could tell she wanted out of her blanket, but it was far too cold. "Rowan..." He sighed, earning a smile from the bundle in his arms. From that moment on, Ben would put every plan he had ever made for his future on hold for this little girl. She had won his heart. "Benedict~ do you hear me calling- oh my..." Ben had turned around to see his mother peering over his shoulder. "Oh the poor thing~!" She took the note from his hand and read it with tears in her eyes. Ben looked on past their property for any sign of her mother. 

Nothing. 

Holding little Rowan close, he turned back and into the massive house. Never once did he take his eyes off of her. Wanda followed her son to the living room where they pondered on the unfortunate soul.
