In 1919, a serial killer known as 'The Axeman Of New Orleans' sent out a message stating that he would strike again, but that he would not kill anyone found inside the venue that had jazz band playing. The following night, every single dance hall in New Orleans reached capacity, and amateur jazz bands played at hundreds of house parties all over the city. As a result, not a single person was killed by 'The Axeman" that night.
