After you collapsed in the alley, you were sure that your death was imminent. You couldn't help but think about the things you wanted to do in your life, but never got to. You never found your parents, which was what you dedicated your entire life to do. You never got to see the day your kind would finally be accepted into society. But unbeknownst to you, your life was far from over.

You began to slip in and out of consciousness, hearing muffled voices yelling. It felt as if you were being carried, but to where you had no clue. You were thankful for the fact that your body was completely numb in those moments, protecting you from the large amount of pain you would have felt. Your senses dulled yet again, signaling the arrival of another black out.

You slowly began to awaken, your eyes having trouble adjusting to the light. As the brightness ceased, your eyes came into contact with a wooden ceiling. Several hanging plants and drawings of peculiar animals came into view. You tried turning your head, but a hand gently grasped your arm to keep you still.

"Easy now, you need to rest." You looked up towards the familiar voice. With your vision still quite blurry, you couldn't recognize them right away. Suddenly, your eyes widened.

"N-N-"

"Hush. You shouldn't be speaking." The tall wizard interrupted. He placed a cool cloth onto your forehead. You suddenly remembered the fire, and your wound. You lifted your head towards the wrappings along your torso. "Yes, that was quite a wound, but its healing. You developed a small fever but it will be gone shortly."

You also remembered that Newt saw your transformation. Beginning to panic, you tried sitting up, your breathing becoming out of control. Newt quickly laid you back down, trying to calm you. "If you try and stand up you will reopen your wound. Please, just relax." He explained.

"Your turning me in, aren't you." You managed to say, though your voice was rather hoarse. Newt shook his head.

"No. I was never much for following the laws here anyways." He chuckled. Standing back up, he began mixing something at the table across from you.

"I.... I don't understand."

"You thought I was one of those monstrous wizards who saw your kind as filthy animals who have no place among us. Well, you were very mistaken." Newt responded, turning towards you holding what looked like some kind of sloshy green liquid. He handed the small flask to you. As you got a closer look, it looked absolutely disgusting.

"If your expecting me to drink this, your very mistaken." You said. Newt let out a small huff.

"It's a potion. It won't hurt you, it's for your wound. If you don't take it, the infection won't heal." Newt explained. You sighed and took one last disgusted look at the potion, before drinking it down. You gagged afterwards, giving Newt a frustrated stare. Newt scoffed, sitting in the small wooden chair beside the bed you were laying on. You leaned back, laying your head on the pillow once more.

"So, now you know my big secret." You started, looking towards Newt. "Why would you take the risk." You asked, searching his features.

"Risk?" Newt asked in confusion.

"What I mean is, why not turn me in? There is reward money for turning a shifter in to the aurors." You continued.

"I wish to study you." Newt responded. You furrowed your brows. He realized the oddness of his words, quickly reiterating. "I-I want to learn more about your kind, Shapeshifters. I'm writing a book about magical creatures."

"So let me get this straight." You propped yourself up onto your forearms. "You want to keep me here, to study. And when your done with me you'll turn me in." Newts eyes widened.

"N-No, Merlin no, of course not. I'm not going to turn you in (Y/N). You have absolutely nothing to worry about. I only wish to learn everything about your kind, so others may understand you the way you should be." Newt explained. You calmed down at his words. You wanted to be sure. Sure he wouldn't be lying to you.

Newt stood from his spot next to you, grabbing several buckets and heading towards the backdoor of the small shack. Before he left, you realized that you never saw the young girl off to her mother.

"Newt, what happened to the girl I was with, during the fire." You asked, causing Newt to turn towards you.

"As I was taking you here, Jacob took the child back to her mother. She's is perfectly safe." He reassured you. Your eyes widened.

"J-Jacob? Did he see me as well?" You quickly responded, panic laced in your tone. Newt shook his head.

"He saw you injured of course, but he never saw you change. All he knows is that you were hurt by falling debris while walking down the street." You let yourself fall back onto the small bed, letting out a long sigh. You could barely handle the fact that Newt now knew what you were, you weren't sure however, if you could handle anyone else knowing.

As Newt left the shack, you couldn't help but think that things would be much different now. Even though someone knew your secret, it was as if a weight had been lifted from your shoulders. It was lonely not being able to speak to others and be able to say everything truthfully, without making up your entire life story. It was hard not having anyone to understand you. But now that he knew, maybe things would be better. And you were willing to take that chance.
