Chapter 6: Xavier

Start from the beginning

I notched my arrow more, but I didn't shoot. The two were moving so rapidly that if I shot my arrow, there would be a high possibility that  it would hit Narissa instead of the Kampe. Alex probably had the same thought because he was watching the two carefully, trying to find an opportunity to jab his sword into the Kampe, but Alex was concerned. I eyed him and our gaze locked.

"What do we do?!" I called out. Alex tried to think, but he was stumped as well.

"We might hit Narissa!" Alex said. I nodded. Good. We were on the same page.  While Alex and I were trying to think, we didn't notice that Narissa and the Kampe were inching closer to the window. The snake woman scratched Narissa's arm, leaving a gash that was turning a sickly green color. Poison. Narissa screamed in pain. Abruptly, the Kampe threw Narissa out the window with one last effort.

"AHHHH!!!" Narissa screamed at the top of her lungs as she was thrown off the train.

"Narissa!" Alex and I shouted. I felt helpless. I wasn't able to help her. I notched my arrow, directing it at the Kampe's smirking face. She looked a bit taken back. I took that moment to shoot the arrow, which hit her right in the eye.

"Ahhh!" she screamed, clutching her eye. Alex was slashing at the monster. The Kampe's back was now cut up. I shot arrow after arrow like a mad-man. A few hit her head, but most hit her slithering snake body. Alex finally sliced off the snake woman's head. I shot one last arrow through her heart. The Kampe disintegrated into monster dust.

I rushed to the window, calling out her name over and over.

"Narissa!" I shouted. "Narissa!" Nothing. The trian had stopped a few few minutes after she jad been thrown off the train. so she can't be very far. I jumped out the window in an effort to find Narissa. Alex followed, shouting her name out with me. "Nari-" I stopped instantly. There she lay, blood staining her clothes. I rushed to her aid. At first, I was shocked at how much blood Narissa probably lost. I didn't expect her fall to be that drastic. Then I noticed that most of the damage was coming from her neck, where she hit a rock.

My eyes became watery with tears. "Narissa," I cried. Narissa looked at me, tears streaming down her face. Narissa laid in my arms, her mouth open slightly. Her face was pale, and her eyes showed how scared she was.

"Xavier," Narissa croaked out. I smiled slightly.

"Narissa, hang in there. We'll get help soon. I promise," I reassured her. Narissa shook her head, but winced instantly.

"N-No time. Finish the quest." I shook my head.

"Narissa, we're not going to leave you here. We can still make it. We can-" she cut me off by touching my cheek with her soft, delicate hands.

"Leave me be," was all Narissa said. She stared blankly into space. Narissa smiled, tearing up. "I see a bright light, Xavier," Narissa told me. I smiled, tears streaming down my face.

"Narissa, stay with me. Please. Don't go," I whispered. She looked at me one more time. Narissa smiled, her eyes getting very watery.

"Goodbye, Xavier. I love you." Narissa's gaze turned blank. I shook my head.

"No, no, no! Narissa, wake up! Wake up! Please!" I cried out, sobbing. Nothing. She was gone.

----------Back To Reality----------

I woke up breathing heavily, tears in my eyes. Sweat coated my whole body. My heart was racing and my legs we shaking. Was that real? I thought. No, it's not. Only a dream. . . But what if it does happen? No, I won't let it happen. We just shouldn't go on a quest. . . I began to argue with myself.
