I sat in the car. Chris was fast asleep snuggled into my side. Dad was driving. I was watching the trees pass by in a blur. We must have been on the road for about forty-five minutes now.

"Blare was a powerful being you know. You have her spirit in you princess," father began.

"How come you nor mom ever told me?" I asked softly.

"Your mother wanted to tell you on your 18th birthday herself. That was before she died. The truth is princess, your mother sacrificed herself to keep you alive. You don't remember it because I had a family friend erase your memory and put in a lie," my father replied.

"Telepathic elemental?" I questioned.

"Yep. Your mother was a fire elemental. I am an electric elemental," my father responded.

"What is Chris then?" I questioned.

"He is your protector. Got to admit, he did a horrible job of watching over you. But you got to know something deary. Elementals have a soulmate. We call them by the term beloved. You won't know it until Midnight when the full moon rises. Females anyway. Males know who our soulmates are by the time we turn thirteen. Rarely do elementals get paired with a protector. When Chris found out you were his soulmate he was automatically assigned as your protector," my father explained.

"Okay. Can I take a nap? I am kind of exhausted," I asked.

"Okay, but princess try not to kill us using the shadows in your sleep," father said, looking through the rearview mirror at me.

I just nodded my head and leaned my head against the window. I hummed a small toon as I slowly drifted asleep. I honestly have no clue why I am exhausted. Maybe I am getting another visit from grandma blare again. I hope I don't wake up to see my father slaughtered.

*** Dream ***

"Jessica...." I heard the soft whisper.

"Who's there?" I called out scanning the darkness, trying to find a face.

"It's me Jessica. Your mother. We do not have much time. I am here to give you a warning. They are coming for you Jessica. Listen to Chris and your father. Also listen to grandma Blare and I when we get ths chance to visit you. You are in danger Jessica. Defeat the eon battle and win. Mommy is proud of you. Now go!" my mother called out before the vision faded.

*** End of Dream ***

I jolted awake. Breathing heavy and my heart hammering across my chest I looked around my surroundings. I was in my bedroom. I heard light snores coming from the bean bag chair across the room. I looked in that direction only to Chris there sleeping.

I picked up the nearest pillow to me and threw it at him. He jumped up quickly getting into a defensive pose. When he saw me looking over at him quizzically he then started to relax. I cocked my head to the side just watching him. Chris silently walked over towards the bed and sat next to me.

"Hey," I spoke softly.

"Hey," Chris replied back.

"So.... we are soulmates," I spoke softly, looking away.

"That we are. Jessica... I am so sorry for putting you through all that torture those years. I didn't know how to handle it. I was an inexperienced protector at the time," Chris spoke softly.

"I get it, but please don't ever hurt me again," I respond quietly, leaning my head on Chris's shoulder.

"You got it boss. Get some more rest, training starts tomorrow. Sleep well," Chris replied laying down with me curled up into his side.

I couldn't argue. I yawned as my eyes fluttered shut. Chria kissed my temple gently. I smiled at his kind gesture and then blacked out the surrounded noise. I know I smiled as I fell asleep.
