Her light

There once was a girl
Who looked into the darkness
And said I have no light
She locked herself up
And cried all day
Cursing herself for not being the same

She looked in a mirror
A frown on her face
As she thought
Even my reflection's black
So she sat in a corner
Hands on her face
Trying to picture a smile in its place

She cursed at the results
For she could not feel
Everything she wanted to see
So she went to a doctor
Asking for new eyes
Alas the surgery was done

At last she could see
Though she still wasn't satisfied
Even with her new sight
For she needed so much more
To really fit in

So she bought new clothes
In order to please
But that did not settle
Her building unease

So she smiled a lot
To hide her pain
People asked her why
She said she's fine
So she kept smiling
For a while it was okay

Until one day
She went back to the mirror
And looked at herself
But instead of smiling
She frowned again
For the person she saw
Was a stranger to her

She went back to the doctor
To get her old eyes back
And once again she saw darkness
But this time she smiled and said
The darkness is my light
