Unknown number: hi.

You look down at your phone while at coffee with a couple of your closest friends. They were rattling on about Emily and her up coming wedding.

You: hi

It's not like they were pay attention, more obsorbed in cake details. You decided to go with this, not like you had anything more interesting going on your life.

Unknown number (u/n): so about last night.
You: what about last night?
U/n: I know I started rambling a bit, but I had a really good time.

You felt a pang of guilt knowing who ever this was got shafted. However that didn't stop you from keeping up this a bit longer.

You: hey, it's all right. Everyone gets nervous, I'm sure I made an idiot of myself as well.
U/n: nah, you were ever so graceful jumping on the table, dancing... till you fell off.
You: well, that does sound like me.
U/n: yeah, at least you landed on Chris and not the floor.

You stifled a giggle at the image of some poor drunk person falling off a table while attempting to impress a bunch of people. The table went quiet, you looked up and all three of your friends looked over at you.
"Something you'd like to share?" Isabella glared at you.
"No, sorry." You apologized weakly, putting the phone in your lap.
"You seriously can't ignore your phone for like an hour? Emily is getting married and you have to be attached to your phone." She replied rolling her eyes. You steeled your resolve, and ignored your phone as the girls went back to cooing over your friends ring.
That's how it was with them, Isabella and Mary were already married. They placed bets a year ago out of you and Emily, who would be the last single girl standing. At that point you were in a serious relationship, one where the talk of marriage had come up, but he seemed to have problems keeping it in his pants. He ended up getting his side chick pregnant. Now you were the last girl standing.
"So, any possible dates in the near future?" Mary asked, turning her attention to you.
"Nope, I'm fine with that though." You replied, feeling your phone go off again. "If you'll excuse me."
You stood from your spot and made your way to the bathroom. Curiousity finally getting the better of you.

U/n: but anyway, how you feeling today? You kinda drank a lot.
U/n: I hope I didn't scare you off or embarrass you.
You: no, I'm having coffee with some girlfriends. And you, got me in trouble.
U/n: me? How'd I get you in trouble? Your friends were the ones that egged you to get on the table.
You: different set of friends. These ones are gushing over Emily's engagement ring. I got roped into coming along, not knowing this was going to turn into talking about her wedding a year from now.
U/n: well that sounds like fun?
You: oh, so much fun. :/ I got death glares from Isabella cause she caught me on my phone. That's how you got me in trouble.
U/n: at least your not at work, that could be worse. Speaking of which, I gotta run, I'll text you later.
You: have fun at work.

You went back to the table, trying to engross yourself with weddings details. You just didn't have the heart to be as excited as the rest of them. Not that you weren't excited for your friend but it still stung knowing that you had been that close to walking down the isle. Then life pulled the rug out from under you.
Eventually the coffee meeting with them ended and you were off about your day, forgetting about the wrong number till later in the evening when you were looking through movies at one of the few last movie rental places in existence. Your phone chimed as you look down the suspense/horror section.

U/n: how's your day going? Get into anymore trouble?
You: been kind of laid back, walked around the city for the most part. And no, i haven't yet.
U/n: I have a hard time believing that.
You: and why is that? I only got in trouble because of you.
U/n: you almost got kicked out of the club last night.
You: Dance on one table and you almost get kicked out, what's the world coming too?
U/n: you tried leaping to the table next to us.
You: hey, that would of been epic, you and I both know that.
U/n: so what's on the agenda for tonight?
You: I'm thinking old horror movies and popcorn. Maybe a bottle of wine, and ritual sacrifice. You?
U/n: probably go ice my back, watch a documentary. I did my ritual sacrifice before I left New York. Harder for the them tag me to the body.
You: what did you do to your back?
U/n: fell at work, twisted wrong. Now I have a shooting pain going down my leg.
You: that's no good. Yeah definitely ice that, maybe take some ibuprofen, help the muscles relax.
U/n: awe look at you playing dr.
You: oh you know it buddy.
U/n: oh so we're buddies now. ;)
You: yeah, about that.
U/n: what about that?

Your heart sped up, you were suddenly nervous about telling whoever this was that they had the wrong number. You loved your friends fiercely but you couldn't relate. They had husbands and kids, stay at home moms. You didn't have any of that, it was just you. This was the most excitement you had had in a while. You grabbed a couple of movie as you contemplated to tell this person.

U/n: I'm waiting.
You: shhh, I'm thinking.
U/n: so not to sound weird, but I couldn't hear your name all that well over the music at bar.
You: it's y/n. And I didn't catch yours.
U/n: you sure? Cause you seemed to know it pretty well.
You: humor me, I have a crappy memory when I've been drinking
U/n: Bas.

The guy at the counter rang you up, telling you that you had a two day rental. The same speech he had recited to you every other night. You got to your car, when your phone chimed in again.

U/n: what movie did you grab?
You: I grabbed like three, and I'll tell you in a bit. But first I gotta drive home.
U/n: fine, you got to tell me. Kind of curious what movies you like.

You smiled to yourself, thinking what's the harm in letting this go on a bit longer. It's not like the guy was asking to meet up you, or pictures. Hell it may even dawn on him that this wasn't the chick he was trying to get with to begin with.
