Ada

Winter, the smell of it reminded me of a time I do not fully remember. The bitterness of the cold rang in my blood but I knew it wasn't the season for it...

I could hear unfamiliar footsteps coming to my door, i could feel myself awakening, I could feel my limbs sharply come alive. My senses buzzing as my eyes flew open. I could see a figure through the frosted glass of the door, I looked beside my bed to find a box rattling gently a loud hum coming from it. I held it and kept my eyes on the door...two figures now trying at the lock I opened the box and smiled with relief as I lay back down and pretended to sleep

A few more tries later and they opened the door...their footsteps bringing winter to my room, they approached my bed and stood over me, unplugging all the equipment that monitors my heart and brain. The shing of a sword sounded. I waited. Before they could slam the steel through my bones I shot up and cut his arm off then stabbed him in the neck, a disgusting silvery black liquid running over my hands. I clicked the button on the daggers handle and watched the ruby sword play nicely with the snow surrounding me

"Who sent you?" I demanded. The Cursore tilted his head in confusion "no parle English?" he responded with a skwaking scream. I covered my ears, the scream was so loud, glass wobbled and shattered around me.

Leo

"It's been weeks. how long until she wakes?" Kallen had asked me this question every week now.

"I have no idea how long until she wakes. maybe you should visit her and find out how she's doing?" For some reason he was cold to the idea of seeing her. Just then a loud scream came from the building we both got up and looked towards the side of the building, glass shattered and snow fell from the window

"Isn't it a little early for snow?" Asked Kallen,

"What is happening in there?" Just as I spoke, a Cursore came flying out of the window, a severed arm following him. "Only one person is followed by those things" we both set off to Ada's room, hoping intensely that she was okay. We burst through the door only to find her standing over the body of another Cursore, it's head sliced clean off and already turning to ash.

"You took your time" she said breathlessly wiping her sword on the bed sheets

"You...you're awake" I asked surprise making my voice break a little

"Yes" she said as if it was nothing and laughing slightly at my breaking voice

"How?" Asked Kallen "when I spoke to you you nearly woke up, but you didn't. What...I mean it's great that you're awake but how I mean, we tried everything" he stuttered sounding offended. My sister looked at him, she looked slightly apologetic

"I don't know, I didn't recognise their footsteps and I just woke up?"

"Right" he muttered. I ignored the tension these two were creating

"We should get the nurse in" I said

As the nurse was checking for any broken bones and took more vials of blood from near her spine, this time the bottles were covered so we couldn't see the blood.

"We will have to do this for a few weeks I'm afraid"

"Why?" My sister asked "I'm awake and feel fine"

"Just as a precaution. We don't want you to lose consciousness again, it's turns out your fainting is due to your blood being infected"

"What? Why wasn't I told this before?"

"We've been testing your blood for weeks trying to find the reason for it, and we have only just found the cause, there's something in it that's eating at your nervous system. I am taking samples from parts where your nervous system is most densely packed to see if anymore damage has occurred"
