I Learn How to Use Sharp Objects

Start from the beginning

Ouch! Not that hard! She screamed in my mind

"You're so loud!" I accidentally said out loud

"What?" the trainer asked

"Nothing"

"Okay"

Now that you're on, just clamp your knees to me behind my wings. Not that hard! She complained

Sorry

"Have you don't this before?" The trainer asked

"No why?" I answered

"Because you know exactly what to do"

"She's talking me through it"

"Aren't you in the Athena cabin?"

"Yeah, why?"

"No reason"

That was weird I thought

Yeah Bluejean responded Ready?

For wha- ahh!

Yes, I did scream in my head and not out loud. Bluejean kicked off the ground and flapped her huge white wings.

Wow! It's so cool up here! I thought

Yep, I'm so glad I have wings.

I enjoyed the ride around camp and was sad when we touched back down. I found Marcus back at the Athena cabin and he was packing.

"Are you leaving?" I asked

"I'm going on a quest" he responded

"What's that?"

"We have to do something for the gods. So, Chiron chooses a person to go on that quest. Then that one person chooses three companions. He chose me to be the leader"

"What are you doing?"

"Me, an Apollo kind and a satyr are going to battle the sea serpent Cetus"

"That sounds dangerous"

"Everything is dangerous for demigods. This is a great opportunity"

"Okay, well stay safe...If possible"

"I'll try"

Marcus left the cabin. Probably for like, two weeks, but that's okay there are a few other people to meet. I went back to the arena to practice some more moves, and I saw a familiar face. The Aphrodite kid who wanted to be a warrior. He was fighting with a dagger.

He noticed me walk in and stopped what he was doing.

"Hi" he said

"Hi" I replied "What are you doing?"

"Training"

"I don't know how to do this by myself. Could you maybe...train me?"

"Yeah, sure. Okay"

"Great! Thanks!"

We started sparring. I didn't think it was fair that I had a sword and he had a dagger, but I was very wrong. I was very wrong. Max was a great fighter. He knew my fighting pattern after like, one minute. Soon, there was a ring on the floor.

"Wow, you are amazing" I said

"Well I've been training since I was seven" he said

"Oh, that makes sense"

I splashed some water from a cooler on my face. For some reason, the water seemed to make my brain know exactly what to do. I knew what strategies to use and to make my own. I picked up my ring and willed it to become a sword.

"Again" I said

"You sure?" Max asked

"Yes"

We started again. This time I watched for his fighting pattern. He was all offense. I blocked all his strikes and hit his chest with the flat of my blade. Then I smacked his dagger out of his hand.

"How did you do that?" he asked

"I don't know. My senses feel like they've been dialed to eleven. My mind knew exactly what to do" I explained

"Well your mom's a daughter of Athena. You probably inherited wisdom"

"Yeah, probably"

I left the arena and went to the Poseidon cabin. I wanted to look at the fountain and see all of the different things I could do with water. I got inside the fountain. I felt energy and brainpower. I wanted to make a shape with water in the air. I concentrated and pictured it in my mind. I felt a tug in my gut and when I looked up, there was water in the shape of a heart.

"Whoa" I whispered

I felt a strange pull. I looked where I was standing and there was a whirl pool. I somehow knew what to do. I thought of the place I wanted to go most. I willed the water to take me home. I closed my eyes as a tingly sensation swept over my body. When I opened my eyes, I was in the bathtub with Mrs. O'Leary and a stunned mom looking at me at the sink.

"Percy!" she called

I heard my dad running to the bathroom.

"What?" he asked "What's wry..."

He trailed off when he saw me.

"Hi. Why didn't you tell me I had powers?" I asked
