*trigger warning*, there will be mentions of homophobia in the beginning and gun violence later in the story!
As I sat under the maple tree at school, I heard yelling. I looked up from my book to see 2 boys fighting, one with a small but muscular build and bright fluorescent hair. The other tall and slim, with raven colored locks. I see the one throw a punch, his fist colliding with the raven haired's jaw. Other students are now starting to come pouring out the doors, watching the fight, pressing record on their phones. Seeing the fluorescent haired one tackle the other boy to the ground. I continue to watch from under the maple tree. The raven-haired one pushes out of the crowd, walking behind the maple tree. He had a bloody lip and additionally looked like a bruised ego. The crowd started to break up pretty fast and all whom was left was the fluorescent boy, sitting on the ground. I starred longer at him, I had never seen him around before. His head sharply turns towards me, making direct eye contact. I quickly look back down at my book but, it's too late. I already hear footsteps coming towards me. I freeze, I have a zero percent chance against him. He stopped in front me, hands balled into fists, casting a shadow. Up close he had a face straight out of a magazine.
"Who are you? I've been seeing you in a lot of my classes this week? You're always alone, so I would assume you have no friends".
"Ah yes... Im- Im Tyler".
"So why don't you have any friends?"
"My ma-mom".
"Are you serious? You listen to everything your mom tells you to do?"
"Yee".
"Well, I have been here for a week and have yet to make any friends. I would gladly be your first friend Tyler. Even though I can see why you can't make any friends here In Saint Martinville".
"Yeah, people don't really like being around me or as they say it "support my lifestyle"".
"I can tell".
Josh and I had been friends for a couple weeks now, even though he did most of the talking. I muttered a few phrases a day, scared to get too close to him. I didn't want to make another mistake like last time.
I laid in my bed awaiting my alarm clock to go off to school, I had been awake for an hour already, just staring at the ceiling. Watching it go from dark to light outside my round, white paneled window. I hated the curtains that hung to the thin wire. I counted down the minute left, six, five, four, three, two, one. My alarm screamed out a high pitched beep. I got up right away, picking out an outfit and heading downstairs. Knowing that my mother would already be in the kitchen, making breakfast for Andrew and herself. I finished down the stairs and turned the corner to stroll down the hallway into the kitchen.
"Tyler, your up! Great, I need to talk to you about something important."
I didn't respond knowing whenever she had something to talk to me about, it was never good. She never said a word to me unless it was to scold me for something.
"Katie, she mentioned to me last night that she had seen you yesterday. You were outside of the school, holding hands with a boy?"
Well shit, maybe I won't have to go to school today because I will be sent away to a camp or a fancy boarding school. I wouldn't mind it at all actually, then I wouldn't have to stay here anymore.
"I think it's time for you to change schools. I know you're probably confused and I don't want your confusion to have you make bad choices for this family. People see what you do in public Tyler! So, go back up to your room, go back to sleep, I don't care what you do for today but you're not going back to that school."
