Sectionals was a week away and you could tell that the newbies were a bit nervous. We had the setlist picked out and ready to go. This year, there was no solos to be sung, only group numbers. One girl group number, one boy group number and then a finishing club group number.

Mr. Schue came into the choir room one day and went straight to the whiteboard. He took out a light blue market and wrote "CALMING SONGS" on the board.

"This weeks assignment is only for the newbies," he announced. "You guys seem pretty nervous about your first Sectionals, so I'm assigning you guys to pick a calming song and sing it to the club. A calming song can be a song that makes you feel calm when you listen to it or a song that's slow, maybe just a guitar or something."

Neil's hand shot up. Mr. Schue chuckled and nodded, giving him the floor. Neil stood up and grabbed one of the guitars from the band.

"Alright, so I enjoy playing guitar, which means I know a lot of calming songs, but this one is my favorite," he said. "I'm gonna stop talking and just play."

He nodded to himself. I giggled and covered my mouth to keep from it getting any louder. Neil began to play the guitar and started to sing.

Neil:
"On the rooftop
Thinking it's about to pour
People run for shelter
Tryna get out of that storm
But I got you with me
The sun behind me
What are we leaving for?
Let's stay
Let's get carried away

Your eyes are begging me to touch you there
Could be a thousand people watching
But we don't care

But look at you tonight
So beautiful under these neon lights, yeah
Who needs lovers lane?
Right up on this rooftop
Lets make love
In the summer rain

Oh, oh
In the summer rain
Oh, oh

Nothing better
Than giving this all to you
And the weathers only adding to the mood
I see the winds blowing
The fires growing
Both of us soaking wet
Let's stay
Let's get carried away

Your eyes are begging me to touch you there
Could be a thousand people watching
But we don't care

But look at you tonight
So beautiful under these neon lights, yeah
Who needs lovers lane?
Right up on this rooftop
Lets make love
In the summer rain

Oh, oh
In the summer rain
Oh, oh

There's no place
That I'd rather make l-l-l-love to you
Than right here on this roof

But look at you tonight
So beautiful under these neon lights, yeah
Who needs lovers lane?
Right up on this rooftop
Lets make love
In the summer rain

But look at you tonight
So beautiful under these neon lights, yeah
Who needs lovers lane?
Right up on this rooftop
Lets make love
In the summer rain

Oh, oh
In the summer rain
Oh, oh
In the summer rain
Oh, oh
In the summer rain
Oh, oh
In the summer rain"

We cheered for Neil as he smiled and took a bow.

"That was great, Neil! Exactly what I was thinking about," Mr. Schue said.

"Thanks, Mr. Schue. You know, the guy who sings that song looks a lot like you. And sounds like you, for that matter."

"Hm," Mr. Schue said, crossing his arms. "Weird. Must be a talented guy."

We all laughed at this.

After Glee, Neil and I were at his locker. I had my head rested against one the locker next to his with the books for my last few periods in my hands.
