I started out calling myself a feminist, and I was a proud feminist. But as I learned more about the movement and its history, I started veering away from it. I realized that many feminists didn't really care about actual issues, slaying the patriarchy is at the top of their to-do list.
Feminism was created by white women for white women. Even when white women fought to get their voting right, actively opposed women of color from the movement.
They claim comradeship and sisterhood with women of color, but at the same time "don't see color".As a black girl in the United States, I feel that I could better be used in the struggle for true equaliy as a womanist. I can personally relate to the struggle for natural hair acceptance, the angry black woman narrative, colorism, and harmful racial stereotypes.
