Dream sat cross-legged in front of the Tree of Dreams, thinking back to when he and his brother were just playing and chatting merrily. He smiled at the thought. He missed those good old days when they weren’t always fighting 24/7.
Suddenly, he felt a disturbance in the atmosphere.
What is my brother up to now?
He thought angrily. “Nightmare?”
…
Nothing?
“Brother? C’mon, this is not funny!” he exclaimed.
Still nothing?
Dream sighed and got up, only to fall back down when a wave of negative emotion swept over him. “What the heck!?”
Ok, his brother just HAD to be here. “Nightmare? Just come out already!”
Silence.
Why, that fu-
“You called, brother?” Nightmare said from behind. “Yes, I did! Now stop playing tricks on me!” Dream yelled. “What are you saying, bro? You’re the one just sitting there calling my name. What for? No reason WHAT-SO-EVER. So if you called me here just to annoy me, I’ll be on my way.” Nightmare turned to leave. “Wait, you aren’t the cause?” Dream asked in confusion. “The cause of what?”
“All this negative emotion.”
“No. Not intentionally at least. Look, if you want a fight… too bad. I’m lazy today. Good-bye.” Nightmare left without another word. “If it’s not Nightmare…” he began. Then it hit him. Don’t ask how, it was just a gut feeling. (Well, a ‘gut’ feeling.) “Ink!” he hollered and teleported away.
Error left the scene a fast as he could. “No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. What have I done? What have I done? What have I DONE!?” He screamed. “Heh. I was right. I should’ve just killed myself. Then we wouldn’t even be in this situation!” he yelled at himself, while pacing back and forth. “Maybe I can just go back and… apologize? Oh, god, even that sounds stupid. No. No, no, no, no… they would just hate me even more. I would only make the situation worse. I… I couldn’t do that to them.” Error trailed on, tears flowing down his cheeks like a stream. “I… I’m a failure. Nothing but an error. I shouldn’t even exist.” He whispered continuously to himself. “I should just die.” He whispered, a hint of fear in his voice. He looked around at his surroundings. Trees. Nothing but trees. Good. No one here to stop him. He smiled at the thought of finally being dead, all fear now gone. He walked up to the nearest, tallest tree he could find and summoned his strings from his fingertips.
“Ink! Ink, wake up!”
“Mmmnnnwha-?” he said groggily. “Ink! Oh my god, you’re up!” He felt a pair of arms wrap around his body. “Dream? What happened?” Ink asked. Dream took a deep breath. “IwasoverattheTreeofDreamswhenIfeltasuddenwaveofnegativeemotions.Ithoughtitwasmybrotherbutwhenhedidn’tknowaboutitIthoughtsomethingbadhadhappenedtoyousoIcametosee.ButwhenIgothereyouwereunconsciousontheground.” Dream said, obviously still panicked. “Wait, I was unconscious? Why?” he asked. “I dunno!” Dream wailed. “Are you ok? Can you stand?” Dream asked hurriedly. “Uhm… I think so. I don’t see why not.” Ink replied and tried to stand, which went pretty smoothly. “Yup. Looks like I can!” Ink smiled and looked at Dream. Now that he was paying more attention, he could actually see that Dream had been crying. “Dream…? Are you ok?” he asked. “Yeah. Yeah I’m fine.” He replied, wiping his cheeks dry. Then something occurred to Ink. “Hey, where’s Error?”
