When people give you advice, take it. Sometimes the thing people say sounds harsh but you have to get over it. I've experienced it with a few comments where I thought:

But then I ranted about it with my best friend/co-writer and we both agreed on hating the person

But then I ranted about it with my best friend/co-writer and we both agreed on hating the person. I know it's a bit much but saying it makes you accept the comment more.

Some advice you should take. When people like longer imagine, try making them longer, if they like shorter ones, try making them shorter. After all, the readers is the one who should be happy with it.

You should also try seeing the comment from their perspective. They could've forgotten a laugh smiley and it makes the whole comment completely different. If it's one person who doesn't like t but all the other do, it's either a type mistake, or an opinion which you should respect. No need to react to it.
