"Nana! It's time to leave!" Ayaka called out. It had been two hours already. "Nana?!" She called out again, this time sounding a little irritated.
"Huh?" Nana said absentmindedly as she played a hand game with the four year old she met earlier, Aki, and his friend, a boy a little older than him, Kenji. "Hey, wanna see somethin' cool?" Aki asked eagerly, standing up and interrupting the game. "Sure," was both Kenji and Nana's reply. "Follow me." He dashed off somewhere, the other two on his trail.
"Wait, where's Naomi?" Ayaka pondered, looking around. She spotted a familiar figure of a girl sitting criss-crossed on the bright green field of grass nearby, a little ways away from the stone path. Ayaka walked over to her, noticing how deep in thought she was. "What's wrong?" She asked.
"Oh, nothing..." Naomi said, shaking her head and standing up. "Let's go get Nana." Ayaka nodded, letting the discussion slide.
"Wow!" Nana beamed. "Nice car, Aki!" Aki clambered into the back seat of the red Jeep. "Yeah, nice car!" Kenji agreed, adjusting the baseball cap on his head.
"C'm in here, already!" Aki practically demanded, gesturing for them to sit down. Aki and Kenji's mothers were busy having their smoke break, thinking Nana could handle their sons as they conversed about whatever mothers talk about...
Nana and Kenji reluctantly climbed in, instantly smelling the flower fragrance coming from the air freshener up front. "I made this myself, y'know." Aki boasted, lying also as he smiled smugly at Kenji, who in return looked at him with doubt written on his face.
"No way," Nana said, while suddenly getting a thought. "Hm, do you have the car keys to this thing?" She asked, curiously.
"Yeah! See?!" Aki exclaimed, as if to prove his point, while also holding up the car keys. "I took them from mommy while she wasn't looking! I mean — these are actually my keys! See, I told yuh I made it myself." He patted the side of the car while smiling proudly.
"Do me a solid and let us have it?!" Nana asked hopefully. "But you don't know how to drive." Kenji replied, crossing his arms.
"No, but my sister does." Nana explained, referring to Naomi as her sister. "C'mon! Lemme see those things!" She desperately reached out for the keys, but Aki stubbornly held them behind his back. "And what do I get out of this?" He asked.
"Hmmm." Nana pondered for a moment. "How about..." She stroked her chin. "Ice cream?" Her eyes lit up, and Aki smiled mischievously, obviously pleased with her answer. "Deal," He said, handing her the keys with satisfactory.
"Okay, you guys stay here for a second." Nana ordered, getting out of the car. "I'll get my sisters, be right back!" She darted away from the Jeep, the boys watched her run onto the winding path and dart around the trees.
"There you are!" Ayaka grabbed Nana's hand as soon as she approached her. "C'mon, we're leaving..." Nana jerked her hand out of her sister's grip and held up the car keys for her to see. Ayaka and Naomi's eyes widened as Nana replied, smugly, "I found us a car to drive!"
Ayaka didn't know whether to be praise or scold her. "Show me where it is!" Naomi exclaimed, eager for her to be able to drive again. She was getting really good at it, even though she was just a little girl, and had no practice before at all.
Nana smiled and lead them to the Jeep, running along the stone paths as the wind, now increasing in blows, blew their hair and the blades of grass gently. The trees' branches swayed in the wind as the air became more frigid. Finally, they made it to the ruby red Jeep, Nana before Ayaka and Naomi.
"Get down in your seats!" Nana ordered hurriedly as she climbed in. "Why?" Aki and Kenji began to protest, but she wouldn't have any of it. "Just get down into your seats, dummy!" She snapped, annoyed.
Aki, slightly pouting due to her name calling, and Kenji, ducked down below the seats. They heard the opening and closing of doors, and two more unfamiliar female voices. Aki gave Kenji a confused look, and Kenji shrugged.
Nana sat beside the window on the right as Ayaka slid into the passengers seat and Naomi climbed into the driver's seat. "Looks like it's about to rain," Ayaka noted, looking out her window as Naomi started the car.
"Guess we better hit the road," a short woman with a high ponytail, Aki's mother, Chiaso, replied to the woman sitting beside her on the bench. "Aki has school tomorrow." She put out the flame in her cigarette bud and tossed it in the trash.
"It's time for me and Kenji to go, too..." Kenji's mother, Ayumi, said with a sigh. "Besides, it's about to rain again for the fifth time in two weeks!" She took one last drag on her cigarette before also putting it out and tossing it in the garbage bin. "Kenji?" She called out, turning around in a circle, looking for her boy.
"Get your things it's time to go home!"
"Aki? Where are you, buddy?"
Chiaso called out, also. After a moment she sighed, "He was around here a minute ago, I think...." Ayumi tapped Chiaso's shoulder and pointed off into the distance. "Isn't that your Jeep?" She asked, confused.
Chiaso followed her gaze, and saw her red Jeep pulling off. Her eyes widened, "Oh my God, my car!" She gasped. Her eyes widened even more. "AKI!" She made a run for the vehicle, Ayumi close behind her.
"I think they're coming!" Ayaka said, alarmed. "Go! Go! Go!" Naomi maneuvered the car from out of its parking space, having a little bit of difficulty. Aki and Kenji sat back into their seats.
"Hey! That's mommy!" Aki shouted gleefully, startling the living Hell out of the two girls in the front seat. He moved to Nana's side of the car and waved to his mother, carelessly stepping on Nana's foot, "Ow!!" Kenji also moved to that side of the Jeep, and waved at his mother before sticking his tongue out at her. No more school for me! Freedom!!!
"I see them!" Ayumi yelled as the Jeep drove off, leaving them there to panic and worry for their children. Chiaso instantly took out her phone, tears brimming her eyes as Ayumi ran into the street, calling for her little boy. Somebody just kidnapped her little Aki, her pride and joy....Her little boy has been kidnapped! She broke down in the middle of the street and sobbed.
*******
"Are we gonna get my ice cream, yet?" Aki asked boredly, leaning his head against the window as he watched rain droplets dribble down the glass. Nana had dozed off, and lightly snored with her head against the window as well. Kenji had took out his phone from his shorts and started playing Angry Birds, while Naomi was hyperventilating, trying her best to focus on the road, but failing miserably as Ayaka kept her head in her hand in a long-lasting facepalm.
"I just kidnapped someone's child..." Naomi murmured, loud enough for everyone to hear. "I'm a criminal! A child-napper! I don't deserve to live!" She cried dramatically.
"Eyes on the road," Kenji replied bluntly from behind his phone's screen. Naomi made a noise of surprise and drove back onto the right side of the road. "Vanilla," Aki announced.
"Who?" Ayaka asked, looking back at him. "Ice cream," He answered.
Naomi struggled to look out the window while she drove as the rain poured down the glass. What were they going to do with Nana's friends? And more importantly — where's Tek Tek?
