The Ford was gone, they'd parked it randomly in a parking lot and climbed out when no one was looking. They'd forgotten all about the Tek Tek, and their previous terror with them almost getting caught by the police.

"This is amazing..." Ayaka breathed, taking it all in. Birds chirped a wondrous melody as the three girls took in the beauty of the park. "You're lucky, Naomi," she added. "We didn't have a car back at home, so we couldn't go places like you could." Nana nodded.

"It is beautiful, isn't it?" Naomi happily agreed, smiling brightly. "Now-a-days I don't see this place as much as I used to..." Nana and Ayaka looked at her, waiting for her to continue. "Well, my nana died of cancer..." Naomi explained, her expression turning solemn. "And my parents wouldn't even bother spending this much time with me."

Nana and Ayaka both gave her a sympathetic smile. "We didn't exactly have the best parents, either," Ayaka admitted. "Yeah..." Nana agreed, remembering what little portions of food they had.

There were also more people visiting the park, taking in the fragrance of flowers and plants, and the wonderful scent of fresh air. Naomi's face screwed up into a frown as they neared a small stream. "But did your parents abuse you?" She pointed out. "I bet you didn't get bullied either!"

"Yes we did!" Nana said as she began to walk across a small bridge made of rock. Ayaka followed closely behind her, eagerly, as Naomi sat on a large rock near the water with her chin in her hands. "Really?" She asked.

"Yeah," Ayaka nodded. "We were picked on mainly because we were poor." They didn't look bothered by it at all. "But, sometimes you gotta learn how to ignore haters, y'know?"

Naomi furrowed her brows in contemplation — she'd tried ignoring all the girls who bullied her in school, but they only tried harder to get under her skin. Like when this girl named Keiko tripped her in the cafeteria, and she face-planted into her own tray of food. The whole cafeteria had been in an uproar of laughter and mean comments from obnoxious students as her face turned red.

"Walk much, Naomi?" Keiko had snickered as she high-fived the rest of the girls who also shot mean comments at her.

Naomi stared at the reflection of a melancholy little girl rippling in the water. The girl looked straight back at her with sad, bright green eyes that slowly watered with tears. A wilted flower petal fell from a dormant tree and fluttered onto the surface of the crystal blue water and created ripples.

"Watch out, Nana!" Ayaka warned as Nana nearly slipped on a sloping rock. "Ooh!" Nana cried out in delight, placing a strand of brown hair behind her ear. "Look at those expensive Koi!" She pointed below her at the water as multi-colored fish swam about in the cerulean water.

"Look, mommy!" A voice shouted. "Fishies!" The girls looked over to find a middle age woman and her four-year-old boy standing on the other side of the stream, except for Naomi, who was still sadly looking down at her reflection in the water.

"You like fish, too?!" Nana asked eagerly, and in sheer shock as if no one else could share a love for the creatures but herself. The boy nodded, and she smiled and made her way over to him, ready to make a new friend.

Ayaka smiled and sat down beside Naomi, barely noticing her change of mood, as she watched Nana and her new friend play.
