"Annabelle Lynn Dunkbell, if I have to tell you to take the trash out one more time, you are going to be grounded for week! Get in here!" I sure do love my mother. The woman who birthed me only to do the chores and to yell at. "Yes ma'am, I'm coming!" I get off my bed and drag myself to the kitchen where my mother is standing in her "I swear to god" pose right in front of the trashcan. "I'm sorry mom, I got distracted with my homework." I begin "Annabelle it's friday, teachers don't give homework on friday, stop lying!" Ugh. "Yes mother, they do." I say under my breath, hoping she didn't hear me. "Excuse me?!" I grab the overflowing trash bag out of the trashcan and run towards the front door, "Nothing" I shout as I close the door behind me.
If I would have stayed in there any longer, she for sure would have my head. I really should learn to bite my tongue when it comes to talking to my mom.
I throw the bag over my shoulder and quickly tiptoe to the garbage can, trying to avoid stepping on any rocks since I didn't wear shoes. After I drop the full bag of trash in its final destination, I turn to head back to the house. I reach the door and open it slightly, scoping for my mother in any of the front rooms as if i were a spy. When I am sure there are no traces of her I push the door open and immediately shut it and make a run for my room. I dash into my bedroom and practically lunge myself onto my bed, completely ruining the perfectly placed blankets and pillows.
My homework papers scatter across the floor and I debate on whether or not I want to get up and retrieve them or if I should just go to sleep. I decide to pick up the papers and neatly set them on my desk. Most of my homework is just math, Mrs.Prezgay insists on assigning an entire packet each day of class. I figured I might as well get my homework done right now instead of waiting so I could have time to watch tv tonight. I got it all done in a record breaking time of 23 minutes without any distractions. Out of the corner of my eye I see a green flash from the top of my phone, I don't remember it going off. I put in my password and see a message from my neighbor Ryan, Ryan and I are best friends that happen to live across from each other and go to the same school. We're both freshman in high school and we only have two classes together, math and art.
"Hey do you wanna come over and watch a movie? My mom said it was okay if you came now." "On my way" I reply. I slip on my purple flip flops and head out of my room and into my mothers. "Hey mom i'm going over to Ryan-" she waved at me to be quiet, I notice the phone by her ear and left the bedroom. I put that i'm going to watch a movie at Ryan's house on a sticky note and leave it on the counter, my parents and ryan's parents are very close so she won't mind. I grab my phone and leave the house.
Ryan lives right in front of my house on the opposite side of the road, it's a little more to the right instead of exactly in front of mine. I walk out my driveway and cross the road to reach his fence, as I open the fence and close it Rowdy (Ryan's dog) comes and jumps on me. I pet him all over while walking to the door and knock. "Rowdy get off her!" ryan yells "It's fine, what if I was an intruder? He was just protecting you." We both laugh and walk inside.
I sit down on the black leather couch and ask him what movie we're going to watch. "It's called 'The Human Caterpillar', It's supposed to be really scary." "Awe, were you too scared to watch it by yourself?" I tease "No, I'm not scared." "Okay, wait are your parents home?"I ask. "No they're still at work." he says. "Oh, what about your brother?"
I've always had a little crush on Ryan's brother Harry, nothing major. I mean Harry is a junior in high school, all of us go to the same high school, it's our zoned high school, but I never told Ryan about the crush cause it's kind of weird. "Harry's in his room, he didn't want to watch it." "Well i'm gonna go make some popcorn while you put it on" I state and stand up. "K." I walk past Ryan into the kitchen. I always come over so I know where everything is, I reach the pantry and grab the popcorn and open it, stick it in the microwave, and stand there waiting for it to beep. "Annabelle I'm gonna start it if you don't hurry up!" Ryan shouts from the living room. I grab a bowl and pour the popcorn into it without hesitation. I toss the empty bag in the trash and walk to the living room with the bowl of popcorn in my hands. As I sit down I place the bowl in between me and Ryan, he presses play, we settle in, and begin the movie.
