So this is it. This is where I will be spending my next year of middle school.

I look around and see multiple friend groups just talking and giggling. I suddenly realize how alone I look. I quickly grab my phone and start pretending to text on Snapchat. My phone vibrates and I see it's a text from my best friend, Aubrey.

It reads:

Hey, is your new school as janky as we thought it would be?

I laugh and send her a picture of the outside appearance of the school.

She replies by saying:

Hm, maybe not as jacked up as we thought, but still pretty janky. LOL.

I begin to laugh even more, but stop when I realize that all of the kids waiting outside are staring at me.  I guess I was laughing a little too hard.

Way to make a first impression Carla.

Suddenly the first bell rings and all the kids rush inside, pushing me to the back of the crowd in the process. I make it through the rush barely alive and stumble into the main building.

Now, where could the main office be?

I walk around the school aimlessly, looking for some sign that the main office is near me. I even ask a few people to help me, but they give me a sour look and walk away. I continue to walk around for what seems like 20 minutes while in reality, it was most likely only 10 minutes. Eventually, I just sit on a chair in the hallway and try to get my bearings. I turn to see a sign that says "Building 3."

Wait there are three buildings! How will I ever learn my way around?

I suddenly feel a sharp tap on my shoulder.

"Ow!" I scream, annoyed. "You don't have to be so obnoxious."

I swiftly turn to see a cocky-smiled 7th grader behind me.

"I heard you needed some assistance," the boy says. "My name is Alex."

His eyes shine so brightly when he talks, they're kind of mesmerizing... I mean, no he's really obnoxious."

"I don't need assistance from a cocky boy like you. I can find the way myself," I say, standing up.

"Ouch, I feel the burn from that one," he says, still smiling. "You should really be nicer to the people that are only trying to help you."

"I already said that I don't need your help. I know where I am going," I lie.

"Um, you realize that the main office is the opposite direction from where you're going, right?"

I sigh.

"Okay, maybe I need a little help, but only for today," I huff.

"By the way, what's your name?" Alex asks.

"Carla," I say.

"Okay Carla," Alex laughs. "Come on or we are going to be late!"
