"This is the file for the Johnson case. Research his alibi and have this to me by the end of the week."
"Yes ma'am," I responded peeking around my computer screen.
I grabbed the file quickly skimming through the papers inside. As it was approaching lunchtime, I set it back down on my desk and decided to worry about it after I fed my growling stomach.
"Ready?" My best friend Ariane asked, sticking her head into my office.
"Yeah, let me grab my purse and I'll meet you in the lobby."
Nodding, she headed in that direction. Grabbing my necessary things, I met her in our everyday designated location.
"What do you feel like eating today? I'm sick of Chinese and pizza so please don't choose either of those."
"How about that new Vegan place on Lee Street?"
"Ew no meat?" Ariana responded twisting her lips at me.
"You're so extra."
I pulled out of my parking space and into the growing lunchtime traffic.
If there was anything I hated about living in Atlanta, it was the traffic. No matter what time of day it was, there was always traffic.
"Oh my GOD! Every single time we come to lunch, we can never find parking. I need a helicopter."
"Now if we can't find a parking space for a car, what makes you think that there will be enough space for a helicopter?" Ariane said as she snuggled into her jacket.
"Whateva'. You're always a dream killer."
We sat across from each other grabbing our menus from the table deciding on what we wanted to have.
"Seriously Tee. Could you have not picked a place that had chicken tenders or something? How am I supposed to get full off of mashed cauliflower and hummus?"
"You asked me what I wanted and this is what I chose so hush and just choose something," I responded still skimming over my menu.
She huffed as she continued to look over the menu.
"Would you all like some more time or were you ready to place your orders?" Our waitress asked looking between the two of us.
"I'm ready are you?" I asked Ariane.
"I guess I'm ready."
"Ok, I'll have the buffalo cauliflower sub and water with lemon on the side."
"Would you like a side with that?"
"No that's ok."
"And what about you ma'am," she asked looking over to Ariane.
"I'll have the vegan chili dog with dill fries and water with lemon please."
"Yes ma'am. I'll be right back with your drinks," our waitress responded as she grabbed our menus and walked away.
"So what you got planned for the weekend?"
"You know I'll be working. What about you?"
"Damn. Why is Angela such a bitch?"
Removing my arms from the table as our drinks were placed in front of us, "I don't even know. I'm sick of her ass I know that much."
"She walks around like she has a stick up her ass. She needs to get some dick," Ariane said as she took a sip of her drink.
I glanced around the small restaurant to see if anyone we worked with was in attendance and thank God they weren't. Ariane could be a little loud sometimes and I definitely wouldn't want anyone to overhear the conversation we were currently having.
"You and that potty mouth."
"Girl please. You're worse than I am."
"I plead the fifth."
"Bitch you ain't in court right now."
I laughed at her response and dug into the plate that sat in front of me as I dreaded my return to work.
--------------------
"Here are the notes for the Alexander case," I said as I handed Angela the case folder.
Grabbing the folder, she continued to look down at her desk.
"Is there anything else you needed me to do before I head out for the weekend?"
"No go ahead."
Still looking down at her desk, I decided to just leave without saying another word. Angela could really be a pain, but there were times where she wasn't so hard to be around. I've currently been at this law firm for about five years now. Working my way through law school and as soon as I graduate, I'm on the first thing out of this place.
Walking into my condo, I turned the alarm off while kicking my shoes off at the door.
"Wassup Ari?"
"Hey! Jas invited me to a tattoo party downtown and she wanted me to see if you want to come?"
"Nah I'm good. I'm too tired."
"Man stop being an ol' hag. You never go out with us. Just come this one time."
Laying across my bed, "I said what I said. Ain't that unsanitary anyway?"
"Here you go tryna ruin the fun for everybody. I'm coming to get you in an hour so be ready."
"Don't waste your gas."
"It won't be a waste," she responded, as she kissed into the phone hanging up on me.
I shook my head as I grabbed for my remote. That poor baby is going to be so disappointed.
-----------------------
"Really Tee?!"
"I told your ass you were wasting gas."
Following me up the stairs, releasing many explicatives, she went into my closet.
"Get out of my closet Ari."
Throwing outfits onto my bed, she returned to my closet, completely ignoring me.
"Here are some outfit choices and the shoes that look good with them. What do you have downstairs to drink?"
"There's some bottled water in the fridge."
Rolling her eyes, "Heffa I'm talking about draaaank. Not no childish bottled water."
"Well you should've just said liquor."
"You know what I meant don't act."
"Anyway. There's some Hennessy on top of the refrigerator."
Dancing out of my room, "Henny make you drop them panties."
Shaking my head, I reluctantly removed myself from the bed and walked into my bathroom to begin my hygiene routine.
I truly just wanted to lay here and catch up on my ratchet tv, but if I didn't go out with them tonight, I wouldn't hear the end of it. Plus, I need to let loose a little bit. Work had me so stressed out that I've forgotten how to have fun and being 24 years old, that was embarrassing to admit.
------------------
"I'm ready."
"It's about time," she responded downing the rest of her drink.
I simply rolled my eyes as I placed my tube of lipstick inside of my clutch.
"Here."
"No I'm good."
"Take this damn shot girl so we can go."
I snatched the shot glass from her hand and tossed it back.
"You're not going to be peer pressuring me all night."
"Yeah ok," she responded as we walked out of my front door.
