Chapter 1: The start of it all
* There might be some grammar or spelling errors throughout this, sorry.
With the feeling he just got in a long while, maybe for years even, Eyeless Jack felt like the world was at his feet. It obviously was, but it felt like he could overcome anything. Birds were singing, the wind was at a steady breeze for a stroll through the woods that he couldn’t see, but only sense. Today felt the most marvelous day in a while. No screaming or yelling from downstairs, no useless gossip, thankfully no stabbings or harm done to others. Eyeless felt at peace in the early morning light.
Soon that would come crashing down.
Without a sigh, like usual, EJ got out of bed and headed downstairs for breakfast that he could smell being made. Barely anyone was down there and only a few were up at this time, usually Slender, sometimes Jeff if he felt like it, and Toby. The only thing about Toby is that he would wake up and not leave his room until everyone else was done eating. It happened during dinner too, he never liked to eat when the others were and no one knew why.
“Another one is teaming with Zalgo.”
“Who is it this time?”
“The clown fuck, Laughing Jack.”
EJ could recognize the voices in the dining room, Jeff and Ben, surprisingly Ben was up already.
The floor creaked as Jack entered the room, the black liquid from his eye sockets dripping onto the floor in tiny drops.
“Hey Jack.”
“You seem better than usual.”
Eyeless sat down without a word or a reply back, his stomach growling and begged for food.
“Laughing Jack joined Zalgo, hasn’t he?” Eyeless wasn’t surprised, Laughing Jack was becoming distant from them. He never trusted that clown anyways, even before he joined he was known for his sneaky ways and his high persuasion that got others killed. He wasn’t something to be reckoned with.
“Yeah, Jeff and I were just talking about that. We don’t care much for the guy anyways.” Ben scratched the top of his head, moving his hat a bit and then moving it back in its place.
“None of us did. Rule of thumb, never trust clowns, and definitely one that has the word laughing in their name,” Jeff said through his teeth.
He was always a type of person to never trust anyone, he likely doesn’t even trust Ben. He judged others too harshly to begin with. The only person Jeff trusts is Smile, his dog.
“The only person I saw to make Toby laugh was him or Clockwork, then that fell through.”
“Clockwork? Didn’t she leave him for some petty reason?” Ben questioned, looking at Eyeless Jack for an answer.
“Maybe so, but I don’t think that’s what truly happened. I don’t think she joined Zalgo with her own free will.”
Jeff turned and looked to his side at EJ, “Why do you always act like there’s more to something? You probably think there’s more to an apple than the seeds in the middle. You might think there’s aliens in the ocean or some shit.”
Jeff would’ve kept going and to go onto what he thought about Clockwork but Slender standing in the doorway to the kitchen stopped him. He then sighed and went to the kitchen, to get his own breakfast to eat.
Very rarely someone would be considerate enough to cook something for breakfast or dinner. Usually everyone ate what was left in the cabinets or what was caught in the woods. Even if a cereal box was collecting dust for weeks, sooner or later someone would be hungry enough to eat it.
With breakfast being over and the rest came down to eat, Toby soon came down once everyone left the kitchen and dining room. He didn’t care if they thought he was weird for doing this, their own little hobbies were more strange than this.
Jeff with his odd rock and animal skull collection, Eyeless Jack and his experiments with no little reasoning as to why he wanted to do them in the first place.
Toby sat in the dining room at the table, eating less of his cereal than usual. He didn’t feel hungry, something inside him felt wrong. Like something wrong was going to happen.
“Fuck it,” he mumbled and pushed his cereal away from him and got up, leaving the dining room to hide out somewhere in the house for the rest of the morning. He wasn’t planning on doing a job for a while, even if he had to.
While everyone did their own thing, Jeff was out in the woods with his loyal monstrous pet that could devour a deer in seconds.
With a bone in his hand that he stole from EJ’s office in the medical hall, he stared down at the dog wagging his tail.
Give me the fucking bone Jeffrey.
Jeff sighed, obeying his orders, Smile barely did this, send a message and talk to him like a normal human. But that’s what made him special, this dog probably had more powers than any creepypasta honestly.
With a lazy throw, landing the bone into the woods, the bone didn’t travel that far into the forest, and Smile chased after it and searched around for it.
“You don’t like Jane, don’t you?”
Jeff turned around at the monotone voice that was quiet, but the voice didn’t make the person appear shy. His eyes met the almost charcoal color eyes of one of Slender’s proxies. The white mask that looked beaten up and had black type dirt or ash rubbed on it gave away who it was, the hoodie that had black spots and splatters everywhere were almost the normal.
“Kate, why aren’t you off hiding off in the attic? You don’t like light, at all,”
“You’re right, I don’t, that’s why I’m not planning to stand out here long. But I think you might want this, you don’t necessarily like her and probably have zero care for her, but it peaked my interest so it might-"
“Peak my interest? When did I have any similarity to a person who looks like a ghost? Give me it.” He took the packet of documents out of her hands, scanning through all the names that joined Zalgo recently. His eyes widened, “Jane decided to join Zalgo? Not like I’m surprised- I’m really not, it would’ve been suspected of her to do that.”
“You killed her parents and burned down her house with her inside, correct?”
Jeff met her eyes that showed no fear or hesitation in them, “Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. Why are you so curious anyways? Is this an interview for my life story and what I did sometime after before I joined here? Stick your nose up Toby’s asshole if you want some answers.”
Smile came up and sniffed Jeff’s hand, the bone lightly grazing over his leathery skin and touch.
Kate glared at Jeff, now knowing how much of a dick he really was, Toby was correct as always. “Toby isn’t as bad as you might think, once you get to know him he’s not as strange as you all suspect him to be. You judge too quickly, never give anyone a chance, you did that to Jane with barely any reasoning behind it than to be your sick fucking self,” Kate remarked, her tone turning ice cold.
“You’re one to talk,” he looked over her clothes, dried up blood here and there mixing in with the black stains on her pure white hoodie, her jeans that were fading with the dark color, her shoes weren’t in the greatest shape either. “Running around for Slender and his orders.”
If Kate could grow a bigger hatred for Jeff she would, but he was pulling her strings and she wasn’t going to back down. “We all are following Slender, either out of pure fear or we have nothing else to do now. He made all of us dig our own grave and soak in it, where else would we go, what else would we do if Slender left? We are accustomed in our ways and we’re likely never coming out.”
Her words stuck like venom to Jeff, he could only be numb to words and certain things for so long until a pin stabbed him in the heart. He watched her walk away, wishing he could find the words to say, or his thoughts could go into her mind, to show he understood what she said. He never liked living here but it was likely the only home he could have and not be caught for so long in. He owed Slender more than he liked to admit, but Jeff had a con in his personality that would surround him forever. He could never back down and be seen as weak, or see himself as weak to others.
